We just wanted to see the castle, but it turns out that you can't visit the castle itself - you have to buy admission to one of the exhibitions taking place there. There are several exhibitions, so you also need to buy several tickets... Or you can be satisfied with the opportunity to see a few rooms. On the other hand, the castle itself is not as interesting as its immediate surroundings, which can be seen for free: towers, views, gardens, etc.
We came across a festival (probably St. Martin's Day), so we weren't allowed to go to any of the recommended restaurants (we had to have a reservation), but thanks to that we went to one that wasn't recommended - which turned out to be very good.
The city has a parking zone throughout the week (including weekends), but the first hour of parking is free. Note: there are few parking meters.

Such a pretty old town centre with a square surrounded by lovely buildings. It was full of cafes and shops.
Then the large castle loomed over the town from its hilltop position. You can walk through the castle gardens and along the path around the castle to admire it. From there the views over the town and across the countryside were stunning.
We also visited the castle of Lednice only a short drive away. Just beautiful!

Mikulov is a lovely little town close to Austrian border. It is famous for its vineyards and wine tasting facilities. You should definitely walk up to the Mikulov castle and Sv Kopecek hill. This is a must see! We ate in O’Hara restaurant which is greatly recommended.

One of my favourite places in Czech Republic.
One of my favourite places in Czech Republic. Amazing south-moravian microclimate, nice walks along tourist trails (also cycling routes), local wine and beer. There’s even a vegan restaurant – a rare find in smaller cities.

Mikulov is an absolute gem - a magical town that feels...
Mikulov is an absolute gem - a magical town that feels almost transported from Tuscany, rising above the otherwise flat landscape. We stayed for 11 days and could easily have stayed another 2–3 weeks, with so much still left to explore. The food and local wines are wonderful (highly recommend the Palava Fizzante - crisp, semi-dry, and perfect for summer). The town itself enchants with Renaissance houses, the Jewish quarter, and the castle of the Dietrichstein family, while the surroundings offer endless discoveries: Valtice and Lednice palaces, Sv. Kopeček hill, lakes, bike routes, the Turold caves, castle ruins of Děvičky, and even Roman and prehistoric treasures like the Venus of Dolní Věstonice. Beautiful views, warm atmosphere, and countless amenities make this region truly unforgettable. We can’t wait to come back!

A little jewel in Moravia, I strongly recommend staying in Mikulov for at least 1 day. Peaceful, good vibrations.
The location is very nice, the gardens nearby the Castle have been recently renewed, they deserve a walk.
The atmosphere in Mikulov is very special, not so many tourists, a pleasure breeze is often blowing.

The region of South Morava and city Mikulov itself is beautiful and the accommodation at Perla Mikulova place just emphasizes the great overall feeling. The apartment is fully refurbished, clean, nice and neath + everything was working! ..and is situated in a small building in a quite place away from the main street. The communication with Owner was easy and clear. We will come back and Big Thank you from our end!

We had a pleasant stay in Mikulov. The town is beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm. Everything was clean, comfortable, and within walking distance. Highly recommend for a relaxing stop on the way to Italy.🌸
