Burghotel Homberg has accommodations in Homberg. Both private parking and free WiFi are accessible at the hotel. The nearest airport is Kassel-Calden Airport, 39 miles from Burghotel Homberg. Breakfast was excellent, and so was the location. Our rating reflects the fact that we liked this place, overall, but it is best to think of it not as a hotel but a bed and breakfast. And as a bed and breakfast, it is great! The difference? When we arrived (on a Sunday), no one was there. There was a note scribbled by the doorbell to call a phone number or two, but we kept pushing the buzzer until someone answered. The owners live nearby, and got there very quickly. They helped us with baggage, which was good, since there is no elevator and there are three floors on a winding staircase. The place was quite clean, but a bit old style, and one owner said they were going to renovate. Note there is no air conditioning, which is usually fine though Germany has gotten some hot weather in summer recently. The location, right on the city wall, is great, with an easy walk covering all of old town (a bit hilly of course). We did not speak English with the owners, though I'm pretty sure they can. In all, as a bed and breakfast, the place is great value, great location, great breakfast, and quite comfortable. Just don't think you are walking into a Hilton.
Located in Allmuthshausen, Landhaus im Rinnetal provides accommodations with free WiFi and flat screen TVs. The units have a fully equipped kitchenette with dining area, a dishwasher and a microwave. Great Apartment. Clean and comfortable. Bonus with the play area for the children. Will definitely stay again.
Ferienwohnungen Homberger Altstadt provides accommodations in Homberg. The guesthouse has garden views and a terrace. At the guesthouse, rooms come with a closet and a TV. The appartement was really wonderful and our host very nice and friendly. We wished we'd booked this one for longer. Also very childfriendly.
We are fans of Fachwerk, the traditional German half-timbered style of building. Homberg has about 300 of them, concentrated in the Old Town (Altstadt), about two blocks uphill from the hotel. It also has a very picturesque town square (Markt) with restaurants serving people outside in it during nice weather. Add an interesting little museum of the area to this. And then there is the great view from the top of the hill where the castle once stood - just some fragments of its wall remain, with a rebuilt tower, and a good restaurant just outside the wall.
