Hilly but full of architectural gems from a 13th century church to a 16th century Town Hall and countless half-timbered 16/17th houses in the Old Town, having escaped any serious damage during WW2. The shops are interesting and not of the chain store variety which added to the charm. The architecture is amazing . The business people of this city were helpful and friendly. We visited Marburg every day of our stay. There is every style of restaurants serving all types of food. There is a beautiful castle to walk around the exterior and the views are outstanding. Such a quaint beautiful idyllic German town. In the mountains. A university town. The Oberstadt, up the mountain, is a world unto its own. Recommend as getaway. Beautiful City. The "Old Town" was spectacular. If you are not in great fitness condition, the undulation of the "Old Town" could test you. The "Old Town" would not be a choice for me to take a "loved one" who has mobility problems, or requires a wheel-chair of mobility assistance. Provision of (2) two elevators to take you up into the "Old Town" wonderful concept. We walked up to the Schloss, which is a MASSIVE cardio-vascular test, but the beauty of the old houses and scenery, quite breathtaking. The number 10 bus should be considered if you don't wish to walk it. Walking around the Schloss, the views out and around and over Marburg, joyous. Walk to our apartment from the Hauptbahnhof was a flat walk, of at an easy pace 15 minutes. It exceeded our expectations, and supermarkets near, pleased us from a convenience point of view, for the few needs we required in our apartment.
