Excellent Service! The hotel wasn't far from the train station. Clean rooms with a modern look to it! Plus a wonderful view of the city. Clerks speak English as well. I love the gym, spa, pool, and sauna they had. I also enjoyed the large breakfast buffet they had. For the money, it was worth it!

Hotel Prinzregent

Hotel in Mitte, Nuremberg

This 3-star hotel in Nuremberg features an attractive Art Nouveau design and a peaceful location on the banks of the river Pegnitz. Excellent choice for cyclists. Large, clean garage just for bikes (including some they rent out) plus a few tools and a floor pump, which we actually needed to top up our tires. Hotel is right across the street from the Pegnitz river, so our view from the second floor was of a sea of green from the trees on the bank above the river. Just below those trees is the pedestrian/bike path that leads toward the Altstadt. An excellent Moroccan restaurant is 100 m away, with many more restaurants within a 10-12 minute walk. All the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful. They also keep the place spotless. Breakfast was excellent, with a great choice of eggs, meats, cheeses and breads, plus a varying choice of salads each morning (always the mark of a superior place). They also have yogurt, multiple types of muesli, and fresh fruit each day. Our room was spacious and comfortable and had a small refrigerator. There were several helpful pamphlets on the desk, including an excellent map of the city and detailed map of the Altstadt, plus a detailed guide in English to the main points of interest in town. Our only “issue” was that the bed was a bit on the hard side, a common problem in Germany. All in all, though, we really loved this place. Tip: There is an imposing set of stairs at the main entry. If that is a challenge for you or your luggage, there is a level way in that takes you to the lift, by going around to the back where the bicycle and car parking is located. However, one person in your party will have to ascend to the lobby to check in and get a room key that will unlock the back door.

A Grimm Fairytale

Although known for the Nuremberg Trials, this Bavarian city has a stunning medieval core of cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings that wouldn’t look out of place in a fairy tale. Sitting above this is the castle, one of the most important in the Holy Roman Empire. Take the steep walk up here for fantastic old town views.

Hauptmarkt square in the old town is home to an unusual-looking church and a Gothic fountain, spectacularly lit during the annual Nuremberg Christmas markets. Selling everything from wooden toys to lebkuchen (gingerbread), these are widely considered the best Christmas markets in Germany.

Other attractions in Nuremberg (Nürnberg in German) include the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, the country’s largest museum of culture and art. Another highlight is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, a medieval hospital by the Pegnitz River.

A word must also be said about its relationship with Nazism. On the south-east corner are the immense Nazi Rally Grounds and Party Congress Hall, built in appropriately domineering fashion. The excellent Documentation Center here is a sensitive and unbiased portrayal of life under Hitler. It is also possible to visit the courtroom where the war trials were held.

Before leaving your Booking.com apartment, hotel or hostel to go to Nuremberg Airport, don’t forget to try the spicy local sausage!
