FAQs about hotels in Aarhus

Always Raising a Smile

The City of Smiles, Århus (or Aarhus as it’s now officially known) has been around longer than any other Scandinavian city, so has had plenty of time to accumulate attractions and eateries. Its vibrant music scene and nightlife are popular with Denmark’s largest student population, and the University Park features the excellent Steno Museum and Natural History Museum.

Weird and wonderful artworks adorn the multi-coloured ARoS museum, and artefacts in the Viking Museum are on the site where they were discovered, alongside copies of exhibits from the Moesgård Museum, located in a forest south of the city centre (closed until 2014). At the heart of the neighbouring park is Marselisborg Palace, the Danish monarch’s summer residence.

The botanical gardens are opposite the Old Town, which is not actually the historic centre but rather a colourful collection of half-timbered buildings from all over Denmark, set around a pond.

Shops and pavement cafes line the Aarhus River which enters the sea by the large port which has contributed significantly to the city’s success. Overlooking it are the ultra-modern Isbjerget apartments, resembling peaks of icebergs. Also innovatively designed is the Modernist town hall, and Aarhus Cathedral has the country’s tallest spire and longest nave.

Booking.com’s accommodation options range from beachfront hotels to cheap hostels and apartments near Aarhus Airport.

I didn’t know much about Aarhus before visiting, but wow – what an amazing surprise! The city has such a friendly and cozy vibe. Everything feels calm and easy, yet there’s so much going on. The locals are super nice and always ready to help, which made my stay even better. I loved walking around the Latin Quarter with its cute little streets, colorful houses, and cool cafés. The ARoS Art Museum was incredible — especially the rainbow walkway on top! You get the most beautiful view of the whole city. Getting around Aarhus is super simple — you can walk or bike almost anywhere. It’s clean, safe, and full of good energy. I really felt like I could live there! If you’re planning a trip to Denmark, don’t skip Aarhus. It’s a perfect mix of culture, nature, and that special Scandinavian charm. I can’t wait to go back one day!

We visited the sky gardens in the centre of Aarhus which was stunning. Would also recommend at least 4 hours to visit Den Gamble By. A town which has been built using properties from throughout Denmark. Must visit Syv13 Restaurant for an excellent view and great food and atmosphere. A wonderful place and well worth a visit...we hope to return in the not too distant!

Bustling, pretty coastal city which is very easy to get around on foot. Aarhus felt relatively safe even after dark. Just one word of warning, like all of Denmark Aarhus is expensive, think London prices and significantly more in some cases. The old town of Den Gamle By is amazing and well worth the entrace costs.

Aarhus is lovely with great architecture, harbour, forest walks, theme park, wonderful art museum (AROS), great cycling, good cafes and restaurants. You can reach Aarhus from Copenhagen by train or by bus which goes on the ferry.

Plenty to see and we would thoroughly recommend one of the historical walking tours which gives a good grounding for further exploration. Do download the 'Rejsekort' app to allow use of buses and trams - much the best way of getting about.

Lovely city, we were only passing through.

Lovely city, we were only passing through. Could have stayed longer. First thing is visit the Tourism centre in Aarhus as most places in Denmark do not have a centre for tourists and rely only on hotels to provide information. It does NOT work.
