Dont beleive all they hype about muggers and wallet pinchers. I think that has been pushed to much. Obviuosly use your sense and dont go flashing anything about. Lots to see and do in the historic centre, book yourself onto one of the walking tours. Do the Cathedral and the virgi on the mount (tho take a taxi) Caroline Park in the city centre is wonderful and if you want to do 'Ecuador in a day' then visit the botanical gardens in that location. Other visits are the Telerifico (go by taxi) nd the views are jaw dropping. If you have not acclimatised at height then load up with some cocoa leaves / drink ad take a sick bag - just in case. The walk around the top of the hill is great but take warm clothing and something to drink. There are one ro two cafes at the top but I liked that rough and ready home cooking that was 'in a shed' by the horse coral. Mitad del mundo (middle of the earth) is a lovely one hour bus ride away and whist in that area go a bit further out to Pulhulahua which is an extinct volcano that you can walk into. Same again take warm clothing as it can get a bit windy and cloudy at the top. The walk up is slightly challenging but have a go (am 65) as it is a geat feeling when you get to the top. Lots of things to do and see dn if you can afford $50 then do the Cotopaxi (smoking) volcano trip,it blew me away. But same again take it easy as your up around 16,000 feet and take warm clothing (and your passsport) for a stamp. Overall I would rate Quito quite highly as i had a lovely time and In hope you will too. Forgot to say I was there just on a week (had a rest day after Cotopaxi). PS as an aside I needed my latop repaired and I found a repair shop and the guys did it for free - sorry guys cant remember the shop but it was right by Carolina park
We did the walking tour offered through Secret Garden, our guide was Fernando. He was excellent, personable, very knowledgeable, his English was very easy to understand. Part of our tour included a trip to Yumbos, a chocolate making company. Our host’s name was Ivan, he was terrific. The city is historic and beautiful. Unfortunately the city is dirty and quite busy in the day, but expected.
Quito is a bustling city It has a great feel to it. We only really did the historic quarter and there was loads more to see. Incredible churches and museums galore Restaurants were very good The height means things need to be taken slowly LOTS OF HILLS !! Airport is at least 1 hour outside city and more at rush hour so be warned for your return to airport!
I was born and grew up in Quito. Now I live in California. I came back for the first time in 35 years since I left. It was a very emotional trip for me and my family. I was very happy to see how Quito has become a cosmopolitan city. It is a beautiful and safe city. I will come back more often.
I live in Cotacachi about 70 miles north of our capital. I always enjoy trips to Quito for entertainment, shopping, sight seeing, etc. These 2 stays were for my eye surgery. This hostel was the perfect location and surroundings in which for me to recover. The staff went the extra mile to accomodate my needs, from escorting me from the taxi to my room right after surgery, to extra pillows to keep my head propped up, to bowls, cups and cutlery for our tea and coffee and salad in our room. The staff is warm, caring and friendly. The rooms are sparkling clean. The location is also ideal for anyone visiting our city.
Quito is too big to judge from one experience. It all depends on what you are looking for, and where you locate yourself. This is our second visit to the Quito area, first to the historic area, and now to the Mitad del Mundo area. We really enjoyed each, vastly different place and stay there.
Centro Histórico, Quito
My husband and I sincerely loved our stay at Kinde House! Eduardo was very welcoming and made check-in/check-out easy. He was accommodating to our needs and gave us recommendations for places to see in the city. If we had questions, he was prompt in responding via WhatsApp. The location is perfect for exploring Quito Old Town by foot, taxi, or Uber. We slept well and it was quiet considering it's proximity to the city. The breakfast each morning was exquisite and we looked forward to it each day!
Centro Histórico, Quito
I spent 3 nights at Latinos Brothers House and I felt so welcome in Ecuador. The guys Octavio and Oskar have been the absolute hosts, friends. The guys showed us around the city of Quito and invited us to many parties. On the last night we lit a fire on their beautiful terrace and played music and had a great time. The hostel is super central and across the street has the market and mini markets. The hostel was decorated with love and always had hot water. An absolutely recommendable hostel.
Quito
First time staying there and I was surprised at how nice everything was especially with the reasonable price of the room. I was put in a nice large room, very quiet at night especially considering the location. The bed was very comfortable which is often a problem everywhere in Ecuador. Both José and the owner spoke English. I was very happy with everything and extended my stay a couple of extra days. I live in Banos and visit Quito every couple of months and will definitely return.
This is a small family-run hotel just two blocks from the main plaza in old town Quito. The family works very hard to provide a quality experience, including answering questions about the area and providing dinner suggestions, and Mama cooks a breakfast that is interesting, tasty and plentiful, with some exotic local fruits included. I bought a Panama hat in the downstairs foyer that they open during the day and the price seemed good relative to other shops in the area.
Quito
one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in. it is very pretty, the rooms are spacious and comfortable and the hot water showers are really hot, which is rare in Ecuador. the owners are very pleasant, every day they called me by my first name, it may be a detail but I think it shows that this hotel is not impersonal, that the owners recognize us and that they consider. I highly recommend this place.
Perfectly situated for exploring old town. It is a historic home from 1809 that has been converted into a small hotel. The view from the roof is amazing. The property was clean and well cared for. The daily breakfast was super good with large portions. The staff was amazing, friendly and helpful, especially Jessica and Byron. If you are going to Quito, do yourself a favor and stay at this hotel.
My stay at La Rabida has really helped me to comfortably make my way around Quito. Andrea, who is running the place, has been very helpful with everything and she connected me to Santiago and Paola who are both outstanding tour guides for the city and its surroundings! The La Rabida hotel has good restaurants nearby and the city center is just minutes away, $3 with taxi.
Centro Histórico, Quito
This place exceeded my expectations. It is located in a central area with connections to the Historical Center, Malls and beautiful parks (Alameda park is just a couple of blocks). The Rooftop has an awesome view of the city and you can enjoy a delicious Ecuadorian breakfast!!! The staff is always ready to help you and give you directions about the city :)
Beautiful hotel in Quito, really nice design and fresh! Very very clean, our room was perfect, hot water the whole time and a huge bed! The staff was really helpful and friendly and whatever you asked they could help you help 😃! It is in great location also lots of good restaurants close by and only about 20 minutes walk to centro historic!
beautiful property! very unique. combines modern with classic Ecuadorian architecture! Breakfast was great with a beautiful view. Only negative is also its positive. The location in old town is great, but not some place you should walk at night. Felt very safe as they had a bery secure hotel. would stay again!
Quito
Perfect place to stay before taking the bus to Mindo. It is located only 2 mins walk from the bus station. The hotel is simple but worked very well for us. We stayed here on our first night in Ecuador and then headed straight to Mindo for a few nights. The staff were very lovely and incredibly helpful!
Beautiful hotel in a very central location to the Old Town. Delicious restaurant food, nice bar and overall very attentive staff and good service. Lobby filled with beautiful fresh Ecuadorian roses. Filtered water fountain in lobby is helpful.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They assisted us with a lot of things, such as safety precautions in Quito, transport options, ecuadorian telephone number/mobile internet and so on.
Hotel perfectly located in the old town, with a historic flair. Beautiful covered courtyard full of luxurious plants, nice vaulted ceiling breakfast room, drinking water fountain in the lobby.
Centro Histórico, Quito
Exceptional staff and customer service beyond expectations. They go above and beyond every day for the customer. The hotel is in a great location to walk to the historic sites in the old town.
Centro Histórico, Quito
Staff were exceptionally pleasant and helpful. Historical significance of the hotel and its contents were wonderful. Location of hotel in the center of Old Town was fantastic. Good wi-fi.
