Excellent location, very customer oriented staff both at front desk and the morning breakfast buffet,, great breakfast, beautiful grounds and respite for busyness of touring, beautiful swimming pool area, excellent value for money. Old Nile Hotel is a really beautiful place on the West bank of the Nile. The West bank is defiantly the place to be when you do not like to be attacked by streetvenders every other second. West bank has some nice restaurants and shops, and it feels more communal and cozy. It is also very beautiful. The Old Nile Hotel is the cherry on top of the West Bank cake. It is a beautiful small piece of land surrounded by water, flora and a wide variety of exotic birds. Travelers who visit this place are peaceful, openminded and socially oriented. Mustafa and Joya/Jouda(?sorry) really encourage this environment by creating a peaceful ambiance. During the evening, a campfire is burning, thee is offered and there is always a conversation going on to join in. There is also plenty of outside space to zone out after a busy day of sightseeing and fighting of street sellers. Mustafa gave us a beautiful room (free upgrade) with a beautiful view of the water and banana plantage straight from our bed. We really recommend staying here!

Very friendly and helpful staff. Very good location, nice room. Perfect quality-price balance. We asked guys to organize a tour to the Valley of Kings for us, and it was an individual, absolutely reasonably priced tour with a guide Hani (ask for this guide, if you're going to visit Luxor, he's really good!). And, Mo, thanks a lot!

Nour el Balad is an absolute gem tucked away from all the crowds. The guesthouse is a traditionally built home with lovely little details and decorations everywhere, and palm furniture including the beds. The breakfast included is delicious, but make sure to stay for lunch or dinner — the roast duck and molokhiya are absolutely outstanding! Luxor’s restaurant scene isn’t amazing and we ended up eating dinner at Nour al Balad every night of our week-long stay. Abdullah and his team offer warm hospitality and can also help with transfers and taxis as needed. We have stayed there twice now and can’t wait to return!!

Luxor sites are great must see for travelers who loves ancient Egyptian sites. Many beautiful experiences. But unless you've got the a full time tour/handler, be prepared for the endless stream of people looking to siphon some of your pocket and time. We're 'do it yourself' kind of travelers and did so without serious issue; It takes street smarts and awareness. People generally are kind and warm and Luxor has a lot to offer. A driver/guide is essential for the West Bank sites though, many things to navigate and difficult without someone versed in the area and processes.

I really enjoyed seeing various monuments and then relaxing at my hotel. Most of the monuments are very close to where you'd be staying - which is really pleasant. There are several very reasonable tour operators and always lots of availability, during the off season. I recommend going between June - December, as there's more availability and it's not crowded.

If I have to go back to Luxor ever again - I would pick a Hotel with a view and good food, and outside of the city centre (avoid Luxor Temple/Souk areas). Honestly, if I had to do it again, I would just leave the hotel with a private driver and guide (and air conditioner) to visit all the temples and tombs, and the Hassan Fathy (architect) house, mosque and neighbourhood. Buy nothing and do nothing in the city centre. I loved all the Temples and Tombs visited, definitely worth while and amazing architecture (Karnak will be forever in my memory), but had a terrible experience with the city itself due to the excessive aggression to tourists in the centre. The Western side of Luxor seemed a bit calmer and more genuine. The city is experienced with a constant aggression by people trying to sell you things. It is overwhelming. To the point that it made me averse to it. The souk was full of fake/low quality items and the same applies to the alabaster factories & perfume shops the guides try to take you due to their commissions' revenue. There are just too many scams and everything was outrageously overpriced. I bought all I wanted and needed in Cairo.

A guided tour to the Valley of Kings and Queens is a must.

A guided tour to the Valley of Kings and Queens is a must. Also the temples of Luxor and Karnak are worth visiting. Easy to get around by taxi (haggling a must), but Uber was not reliable (one guy turned up with our booking on his phone but in a different car and wanting to be paid again!). Some locals looking for custom were a bit pushy at the temples- be prepared to ignore and walk on. Overall an amazing city full of historic sights.

I booked a 7-hour tour with guide and that was enough time to see the Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings, and Hatshepsut Temple. I guess I could have taken a river cruise or done a hot air balloon ride the next day, but one day/2nights was plenty for me! Maybe if it hadn't been 100 F I would have wanted to stay longer!
