Very beautiful old town (buildings from renaissance), perfect for a short visit when you're in Madrid. You can also visit Cervantes's birthplace. Amazing phenomenon of storks who live there in great numbers and occupy major monuments :)

A historical city close to Madrid, with baroque churches and a magnificent old university building plus the Cervantes Museum. Plenty of restaurants (Spanish, Italian, Indian, etc.) but quite expensive for dinner. And lots of nice bars with terraces under the arcades.

The place is worth to visit because of its old and rich history. If you go there for a week, you can fully explore it. There are plenty places to eat and you can choose any of them because the food is really good. You can easily access Alcala de Henares from Madrid (bus or train). We visited Alcala in March and saw LOTS of storks building their nests everywhere – on the roofs of houses, churches, etc. The view was amazing. The place is also famous for the fact that Miguel de Cervantes, the author of Don Quixote, was born here!

Abundance of ancient building and was delightful to see the storks nesting high up on the rooftops , the pedestrian shopping /restaurant area is perfect to stroll through , we-ate at two restaurant one on the main walkway ( excellent and extremely clean Indian) and another typically Spanish ( just down a side street ) tapas bars abound so you never need to go hungry or thirsty. Unfortunately for us the area around the cathedral is under restoration so we couldn't see the whole in its full glory but the work is needed so we've decided to return in a couple of years when we reckon it will be finished !!!

A fantastic place with a great atmosphere. Unfortunately I did not have much time to explore the area on my first trip but I am staying over again in a few weeks and hope to get to see more. El Gato Verde is a lovely bar/cafe/restaurant, with a wide range in beer. We had breakfast there, it was very reasonably priced and tasty. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient. We stayed in Evenia Alcalá Boutique Hotel, it is well located, clean and the staff are friendly.

DO NOT BOOK WITH BOOKING.COM AND AC MARRIOT. THEY ARE ONLY AFTER QUICK MONEY AND OFFERS NO RESOLUTION AT ALL! BE CAREFUL PEOPLE! ONE MISTAKE AND YOU ARE ROBBED!
