We mainly did small hikes combined with swimming in rivers. One along Rio Borosa near the visitor center (about 15 minutes drive after Arroyo Frio, when coming from Cazorla), near the first river fork, do not miss to cross the bridge and hike to the little waterfall. Another hike, along the Rio Guadalquivir up to an old electricity plant starts at a bridge just before Arroyo Frio. Getting around without knowing Spanish is a great challenge. Pack all your pantomime skills, enjoy the non-verbal communication and take it easy.
The main street of the village has a pleasant but not noisy buzz of activity with shops. cafes, restaurants and bars and a very good heladeria. Coming to Arroyo Frio from Cazorla is an amazing drive of hairpin bends, a long step ascent and then drop down into the valley where the hotel is situated. Amazing views from several viewing points along the way. Within an hour of the hotel one can explore many stunning locations : We went to La Iruela, the Rio Borosa Canyon, the dam further up the valley from Arroyo Frio and the hilltop village of Segura de la Sierra, from which there are beautiful views in all directions. We enjoy walking and had several good walks including along a section of GR 247. The source of the Guadalquivir River can be reached by car and is apparently a popular activity but we did not have time to go there, about 20km from the hotel.

Excellent rural hotel set in a small valley village amongst the mountains. Our rooms were large, clean and well appointed with all standard facilities. The bar was busy, serving decent cold beer to thirsty riders and our evening meal was from a good menu, plentiful and well cooked. Breakfast was more than sufficient and we were also provided with secure garage parking for our motorbikes overnight. Nothing to dislike.

The bed was huge!! Super comfy and loads of space. The bathroom was also great, it had a big bath tub and was lovely and clean. I also loved that the hotel tries to keep it’s environmental impact to a minimum and advises it’s guests on how to help. Breakfast buffet was good too- they have soya and almond milk and healthy cereal options.
