Casa Marcial (adults only) is located in the beautiful town of Besalú, just 100 metres from the mediaeval bridge. This property offers a garden with an outdoor pool and great views. Great staff!!! Located in the heart of medieval Besalú, 1-minute walk from Plaça de Sant Pere, Hotel 3 Arcs offers modern rooms with a satellite TV. We loved everything about the Hotel 3 Arcs: excellent central location, immaculate room, tasty breakfast, friendly staff, outstanding value for money. Nicer than we expected for this low price (the lift was a welcome surprise.) We easily found free overnight parking nearby. Great to see tourists photographing the actual 3 arches. Highly recommended.
Els Jardins de la Martana can be found in the historic centre of Besalú, next to the famous Romanesque bridge. It has free Wi-Fi and mountain views. Superb location, great nice and clean room. The room is a little warm due to a faulty radiator but the staff have it fixed.

Oversubscribed, overdone kiss me quick destination to avoid or arrive at first light to avoid the huge nos. Of day trippers coaches etc etc... the Main Street and bridge is busier than Leicester Square on a Friday night.
Worth to see. We stayed overnight, our visit was too long for a small city like this. However, we did not mind, we checked the sights in the night and restaurants around are amazing, the food was excellent.
We had a lovely time during our 4 days. We hiked part of the GR2, did some sight-seeing, ate lots of gelato and drank lots of cafe con leche. Several very good restaurants and cafes in the two main squares. The bakery and a few little cheese and meat shops were delicious and totally all we needed. There is an open air market one morning with lots of local fruits and vegetables.
Besalu is one of those wonderful villages in Europe/Spain that has been sadly overtaken by tourism. We pulled in to the town only to be greeted by masses of tour busses. Then walked around the lovely old city which was peppered with junky tourist shops and even a tacky little choo choo train to take people around town in. I understand wanting to cater to tourism, but maybe something a little classier for a beautiful town like this? We were lucky enough to stay overnight so we got to see the town after hours without the mobs of tours but sadly, we saw very little sign of "real life" in this town. It was as if the locals moved out and the tours took over. There were almost no lights in the buildings at night. A bit sad on that front, but neverthe less, truly a beautiful old village. On the up-side, we stayed in Els Jardins De La Martana, the hotel at the edge of town, which was absolutely FABULOUS. This was one of our favorite hotels in Spain. Quirky, friendly, and family operated, it was really wonderful. We also had an absolutely lovely "local" meal at Curia Reial, which the hotel recommended. The town is definitely worth a visit. I just get sad when I see towns like this that allow themselves to be completely overtaken by tourism.
Besalu is a fascinating medieval town and very beautiful. However, it's beginning to suffer from the inevitable proliferation of tourist tack - shops selling souvenirs, but not much else. The local authority could do a lot to open up some of the buildings for visits and encourage exhibitions that let tourists learn more about the history and culture of the area. A good place for an overnight stay, but not much more.
Lovely old town. Best restaurant we have eaten in, amb els 5 sentits. Everything within walking distance. Great river setting. Shame we could not get into the church or monestry, many tourists disappointed like us. Good tapas bars. Loved the sausage museum. Quaint place and well worth a visit for the restaurant alone. We would have eaten there 3 times in 3 days but booked up and had to manage with only 2 five course menus.

The property was very clean, spacious and comfortable with excellent facilities, in the middle of the lovely village of Besalu. The air-conditioning was very necessary during a heatwave. The wifi worked well for our needs. The mother-in-law of the host lives upstairs and answered any question we had. She and the host himself were both very friendly and helpful.

This was a clean, very friendly, welcoming and conveniently located venue. After 6 days in Barcelona, we were looking for a less hectic few days; and Besalu and Casa Marcial fit the bill. A bonus was its easy walk to Pont Vell, a delightfully exquisite bistro recommended by Gemma that provided one of our best meals of this trip thus far.

The staff was amazing and super accommodating. They very much made a feel at home; I would definitely recommend this lodging option; more fun and interesting than a hotel stay for sure!
