I think its a lovely experience with plenty of history to see at very little cost. The city is very clean and has a good relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of small bars and good restaurants to enjoy and the service everywhere we went was good. There is no problem if you dont speak Spanish. It's a really nice city, easy to walk around, plenty to see and I'm surprised it's not more popular. The port is nice to watch the cruise ships and all the boats. Go up to the castle in the glass elevator and enjoy the garden, sights and many peacocks up there. There are lots of museums and Roman ruins all over the city. The naval museum is also interesting. We did the city tour bus on the first day, it's not hop on hop off but you can get off at the beach if you want and catch a later bus back. It was a good way to get an idea of where things are before you start walking around. The main calle mayor is nice for shops, bars and restaurants around there but given the regular influx of cruise ship passengers I was surprised how many empty shops there were on the side streets. Cartagena was more than we expected.
Cartagena was more than we expected. A totally beautiful city with beautiful buildings and so much to see and visit. The shops and cafes were second to none, and all so accessible on foot. The city is not huge which makes it perfect just to stroll and visit the bustling port where watching the cruise ships and enjoying trips on the small tour boats provide great experiences. All in all we are so pleased we visited as it was chosen randomly but we would certainly recommend it, and would visit again.Guest review byJanetUnited Kingdom - 10.0
