The town is very clean and seems safe. The people are very friendly and helpful. The food is fantastic and not expensive to eat out. From here it is a short drive to some very pretty parts of rural Spain. A great area to take pets.
There is a huge height difference between where we stayed and the actual village - a hairpin bend infested road connects the two (great fun for rally drivers though). The lower hamlet is, in my opinion, the better of the two.
If you like the outdoors, Cortes is for you. It is surrounded by magnificent scenery, cork oak forests, river gorges and of course, the "white towns" of Andalucia. It is also not far from the coast, but we decided to stay in the mountains and enjoy wild Spain. It's a small town, but everything you need is there - food shops, bars and restaurants - all very reasonably priced.

The hosts were helpful about picking me up from Cortes de la Frontera, and made me feel very welcome. The studio itself was pretty and comfortable, with everything you could possibly need. It has sensational views down the valley and its own terrace, which could be an idyllic place to sit in spring or summer. I was on a winter hiking holiday, and would rate the 20 km walk from Montajaque to Cortes de la Frontera as among the best day's walking I've done anywhere. The scenery is spectacular and varied.
