Akelarre Ostatua’s rooftop sun terrace offers wonderful views of Guernica and the nearby Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Conveniently located, easy walk to most tourist attractions. Laundromat is right across the street and reasonably priced. A nice kitchen and terrace on the top floor to make breakfast and have a drink.
Aristieta Hotel is set in a rustic stone building, 5 minutes’ drive from Gernika-Lumo and 21 mi from Bilbao. Set in kiwi and apple orchards, it offers free WiFi and free on-site parking. Wonderful family and rooms. It’s so nice to stay right outside of town in the forest.
Set in Ajangiz, 1.2 mi from Gernika, Casa Rural Astobieta offers a garden and free WiFi. The property features a garden and terrace. Lovely rural setting while still close to Guernica. Shared facilities gave opportunity to meet fellow travelers. Host Eric was a delight, very helpful and communicative. The property is located in such an interesting area - we enjoyed car trips to Bermeo and the church on an island (can’t remember the name it’s a must visit and any local will know it’s name). We also took the train to Bilboa - 45 minutes from Guernica.
Located in Morga, Albergue de Peregrinos Gerekiz is a pilgrim hostel with a bar, shared lounge, garden, and free WiFi throughout the property. very very clean and cozy. The owner is so kind and friendly. Could buy instant fried rice with eggs for dinner from hostel.
Gernika is a busy lively town, but with a sad history. Visit the Museum of Peace, and find two important sculptures by Henry Moore and Eduardo Chillida and the ceramic copy of Picasso's 'Guernica'.
Guernica is a beautiful town with plazas, gardens, parks and places of interest. It was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War and reconstructed later. It has a rich history which can be accessed in its Peace Museum.
The peace museum is a must see...it was quite moving. The assembly hall with stained glass ceiling in the main meeting room is amazing. Guernica is very walkable. I took the Euskotren to Bermeo, the end of the line and would not do that again. The town of Mustaka, however, was a pleasant suprise, very walkable with beach and water sports.
Great information centre ,helpful staff great enthusiasm, lots to see,in the town easy map to follow, fabulous museums ,and walk about town, Plenty of trains buses,to the coast, and to Bilbao, Friendly town with a history, and Picassos picture,
The town of Guernica y Lumo has a most unique atmosphere. It seemed calm and peaceful, and the people were really welcoming and friendly. There is much to see, both in and around the town. It is also very easy to get to Bilbao either by train or bus. The bus is actually better and more comfortable than the train. The Tourist Information staff were really helpful indeed.
We visited the Peace Museum and it was really interesting and gave us great insight into Spanish history, as there was an exhibition on at the time Lots to see if you have an interest in Spanish history and culture.
