Hotel Spa Convento Las Claras is a converted convent located next to the river in Peñafiel. It offers a seasonal outdoor pool and spa. Free WiFi is offered throughout the property. Perfectly located for anyone visiting the Ribera del Duero region along the Golden Mile. The hotel has its own restaurant which was very good and reasonable, but more importantly convenient as many of the local “asadores” are not open every day or close early in the afternoon. From the hotel you can enjoy beautiful views of the Castillo de Peñafiel. The pool looked very inviting but didn’t use it, same goes for the spa. Private parking is limited, you must reserve in advance.
Hotel AF Pesquera is a boutique hotel, 1 km from Peñafiel Castle, in the capital of the Ribera del Duero wine region. It offers a gym, whirlpool and free WiFi zone. exceptional setting and close to the best Wineries. All the staff were excellent and very helpful especially Carlos who made outlets visit to the restaurant very special.
Apartamentos Turísticos Peñafiel is situated in Peñafiel, 1.2 km from Peñafiel Castle and features air-conditioned accommodation with free WiFi, as well as access to a terrace. Beautifully clean and tidy. Central location for all amenities. Check in was easy. A modern apartment which is very well looked after.
Situated in Peñafiel in the Castile and Leon region and Peñafiel Castle reachable within 2.4 km, Casa Bodegas Marcos features accommodation with free WiFi, BBQ facilities, a seasonal outdoor swimming... Pretty house, everything looks new, reasonably clean, quiet, really close to Penyafiel, in the middle of a vineyard with a nice little swimming pool. Even when it's hot during the day, it cools down at night. Having a kitchen and a fridge was really useful. I wish all the hotels had those.
Out of season Penafiel closes down. All restaurants close for the evening and some altogether. There are a few interesting sites - the castle and the main square; but what is so obvious is how poor Penafiel seems despite so much wealth being generated by the wine business.
Good place to base yourself if visiting the bodegas in the area, but beware virtually everything shuts down on a Monday, which makes finding anywhere to visit and finding somewhere to eat quite challenging. Also note that many restaurants only open for lunch (usually 13-1500), and those that do serve dinner don't open until 2100! The Castle with its wine museum is well worth visiting. Unfortunately it was all in Spanish - the App wasn't working on Apple phones when we were there. Nice tour of the Castle though. Also worth seeing the unusual, sandy floored Plaza del Coso which is occasionally still used for bullfights. Bodegas Pago de Carrovejas is really really worth visiting - they have superb wines & an amazing restaurant Ambivium where we had the best meal on our entire trip. You can do wine tasting on its own here - at anytime in their bar, which is great because, unlike most bodegas, you get to choose which set of wines you wish to sample - and that includes their really good wines. They also do a very good cellar tour with wine tasting and lunch (tho some may find it a little pricey). The Bodegas Protos tour was better than the tours we did in many of the other bodegas in the area because not only was it well priced at €11, it also has a longer history than most bodegas, and it has both an old and a new winery on the same site. We had a great enthusiastic & informative guide. If you are looking for tapas, I'd recommend Tartero on the Plaza de Espana
Nice little town chosen for castle and for convenient stopover from the Costas. Castle impressive but is a wine museum. You can either do a castle only guided tour in Spanish only, or a wine tour. Pity we just wanted to walk round castle on our own.
Very friendly and well located town for a Ribera del Duero visit. Great Bodegas nearby. Highly recommend Bodegas Protos as a starting point for your visit. El castillo overlooks Penafiel, another must see. The wine museum is located in the premises.
We were there in September, most places shut Sunday and Monday, 2 restaurants we tried for Tuesday evening were closed. Little English spoken. The only winery tour we could get when we were there was in Spanish and the winery left us waiting in the street until 10 minutes before it started. They gave us the scipt in English. The castle trip was likewise. It is, on the otherhand a very attractive old town, but did not seem organised for international tourism.
A great place to wander around. A small centre. Atmospheric medieval streets, impressive castle and Plaza del Coso. The one drawback were limited opening times in October for churches and museums. For a wine lover like myself it is a fascinating town. Some good restaurants too.
We will definitely be back! The location was perfect to go wine tasting as long as you have a car. It was easy to walk to restaurants in Penafiel. Esther was an amazing host, providing us with a bottle of wine upon arrival and various snacks including juices and water. She was helpful and kind in giving suggestions on what we could do in the area. The apartment was extremely clean and well furnished. Very comfortable for several nights with my spouse and my 2 dogs.

We chose this hotel for its location and availability of parking. The rooms were excellent, and so was breakfast. We really enjoyed having something to eat and drink in the outside courtyard on our second day. Also the inner courtyard is stunning.
Spacious Apartment with very good air-conditioning. There was a washer and drier in basement. Note: washer took almost 2 hours and drier about 45 minutes. Check-out time was 11:00 am
It was a great apartment in the heart of Peñafiel with all the amenities provided. Nice quiet location and close to the center of town.
Good Location close to Peñafiel. Lots of privacy. Wine climate cabinet box in the room !
Stylish hotel. It could have been a great stay.
