Costa Dorada Thrills and Spills
Like all Costa Dorada resorts, Salou has a fantastic beach and fun water sports. But it’s the wide, palm-lined promenade that really makes it stand out. Boutiques and exclusive restaurants line its western end, while in the east the bay curves to a point where a sculpture leans out to sea. Head there for lovely views of the sandy beach and distant mountains.
Further round the coast towards Cap Salou the beach becomes rocky coves, while inland is PortAventura, Spain’s most visited theme park. This huge complex includes rides and roller coasters in themed zones, and a water park with slides, flumes and pools galore. Also here is Lumine, a golf club featuring 2 courses designed by Greg Norman.
Next door is Port Halley shopping center which also has a 3D cinema and bowling alley. The best shopping in Salou though is in the old town, where designer shops stay open until late.
Other Salou attractions include the dancing Font Illuminosa fountains, Bosc Aventura’s high ropes, and Aquopolis - a great water park for younger children. Although the town has plenty of arcades, clubs and bars, peace and quiet can be found.
Reus Airport is the nearest and it’s around a 20 minute drive from there to the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Salou bookable on Booking.com.

If you have a car, L'Ametla De Mar - 30 minutes south of Salou was amazing, Fishing Village. Barcelona worth a visit, so much to see here, could write a book on this. Carrer Barcelona in the old town end of Salou, shops of all sorts. Salou along the Beach, bars, restaurants and shops, bicycle hire etc. etc. If you want to feel at home, as we call it, 'Eastenders end' is at the opposite end to the old town, Irish, English and Scottish bars etc. Buy a bus ticket in the cubicle at the beach, across from Mc Donalds, (10 journey ticket) Hotels and Apartments along the beach are more expensive, 5-10 minutes walk to the beach and save €100's.PaulIreland - Scored 1010
Never been to Salou before, was always put off by the...
Never been to Salou before, was always put off by the transfer. So we booked flights and accomodation seperate and flew to Reus airport. 15 minute taxi ride and there. Salou exceeded my expectations, it's beautiful and clean, with lots of little coves and walk ways. The promenade is lovely overlooking the beautiful beach. Down one of the side streets they are pedestrianising, so they can say they have 'a strip' apparently. If we organised a little better by staying an extra day we would have taken the train to Barcelona. I will definately return.

Very clean and flat overall, easy to manoeuvre around town once you had your bearings. Fly to REUS if you can as opposed to BARCELONA. Transfer time by taxi is only 20 mins , plenty of bars and restaurants vying for your money. Plenty of supermarkets if you are self catering

The beach in Salou was great.
The beach in Salou was great. Long stretch of sand, flat for walking. Clean. Lots of restaurants and shops to choose from. Some restaurants right on the beach. A number of public washrooms along the beach. Enjoyed the Rambla streets where there were no cars only pedestrians. Free parking was hard to find but you can always use the pay parking. Supermarkets convenient to the beach and downtown.

Just one thing that the eucalyptus smelled awful, as it was old, please do not put it in the vase or keep an eye on it. My husband also liked the SPA. The Russian speaking lady Viktoria was also kind and attentive in comparison to Spanish lady in the glasses with the black frame (she was very rude).
