Conservative boring town. Very religious. There was a lovely bar around the corner from the hotel that a lot of locals frequented, which was lovely and had a good atmosphere, one of the few places we felt comfortable. Felt Franco's presence was alive and well in this town.
You have to definitely see the chicken in the cathedral! It is really impressive, with all the chapels, and its worth seeing. Friendly locals, beautiful architecture. Vegans can survive there. They have supermarket called "Eroski", which takes some searching, but you can still find the couscous, fruits and veggies.
They had a festival or celebration at night on the day we staying, so their speakers make very loud noise until midnight around 3:00 a.m. we couldn't get sleep the whole night. It's terrible.
A very interesting old town on the Camino. The central ‘way’ passes right through the centre of town, by the cathedral which is well worth a visit. Pop in to the Parador next door, even if you’re not staying there, perhaps have a coffee or drink in the beautiful old area of this hotel, right on the square.
Parador was elegant and relaxing; it has a beautiful lobby. Room and bed were comfortable. WiFi service was fairly good (could have been faster). We loved the location of the parador in town. The cathedral next door is a "must visit"; it has a unique story. We found a lovely restaurant a block away for dinner, and chose not to use the hotel restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and wish we could have lingered another night.
The cathedral interior is spectacular - look out for the chicken! Apart from that, this small town has little to offer with only a few eateries and little to offer in the way of shops. OK for a stopover or a base to explore the Rioja region, which is well worth exploring.
