We stayed for four days in early September, the weather was great, but the beaches were not too busy. We walked the length of the promenade and it was clean, friendly and a nice mix of bars, restaurants and shops. Torremolinos is a nice sun holiday destination and also a base for visiting other parts of Costa del Sol. This was my third visit and I didn't think the transport links were as good as previous visits. There is a lovely promenade by the beach that goes down into benalmadena which is good for walking or cycling. There are some lovely restaurants I particularly liked El pasta e pizza in plaza San Miguel and Colonia in plaza Nogalera. The staff in both places were very nice and the food was reasonably priced and a good standard. As a solo traveller I did not feel under pressure to leave restaurants as soon as my meal was eaten. I recommend a trip to Mijas and Málaga. You can take the bus to Mijas and train to Malaga. If you like markets the Tuesday one in fuengirola is very good. It is a special hotel, but the price is very high.
It is a special hotel, but the price is very high. I was añoyed after paying almost 1000 euros for three days, and then told I have to pay 10.50 euros per day to park my car! The area around Bajondillo Beach (300-400m) is not suitable for families with children. These are beaches exclusively for the gay community. You are not even allowed to go to one beach with children. The gay community is very strong here, and associated with this is also public behavior right on the beach in the form of homosexual games, kissing and similar. I must say that even heterosexual couples do not behave so eccentrically in public! The capital city of gay people didn't prove that in any way. In exchange of that it was the capital city of English people abroad. You can see pubs and fish&chips anywhere, also Irish ones. Not much of a Spanish taste left. City is nice all around. The famous Carihuela Beach is started from half of that long strip to the north. Is not the best as i've seen more beautiful beaches in Costa Blanca. At the beginning of this long beach, close to Benalmadena Port, the beach is awful as is full of rocks. The beach is dirty and the water is cold as hell. Benalmadena Port is nice and expensive. We had an apartment close to the beach with a beutiful swimming pool and a large private parking and this combination is very rare in Torremolinos. Our best point in this trip was Malaga, definitely one of the most beautiful city in the world. If i move to Spain Malaga would be in my short list of two cities. Torremolinos is a lovely location and so close to many other areas to explore in Spain. There are many excursions, shows and day trips if you have young children (or older ones) and so many restaurants and bars as well for the evening.Guest review byZoe
