Former hosts of the European Grand Prix, Valencians take their sport seriously and so they should. Try to take in a match at the 75,000-seater Valencia FC stadium to experience the electric atmosphere.

We are transplanted New Yorkers who live in Barcelona, and this was our first visit to Valencia and the main destination on our road trip to southern Spain (we also stopped in Altea and Peñiscola). Valencia feels a bit smaller than Barcelona and much less touristy—in fact there aren't that many people in the city. But it is a very beautiful and architecturally diverse city, with wonderful restaurants and an incredible park that spans something like 10km and is also Spain's largest urban park. Plan to spend some time in Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences, which is like its own separate town. Valencia is one of my favorite cities to visit – this was already my third time here, and I know I’ll keep coming back many more times in the future. The city is very easy and enjoyable to explore on foot, and the people are incredibly warm and kind. We tried all the must-eat local specialties – from paella to horchata – and loved every bite. Valencia is a fabulous place - it does expand further than you think (Communidad of Valencia) but the different areas around the City are interesting & easy to get to! Bus/tram system second to none & cheap & you can travel on any bus for up to an hour with one purchased ticket. Lots to satisfy all age groups & interests - City, Beach, Arts & Sciences & many other attractions /Museums with such a selection of restaurants or bars too, whichever part of Valencia you visit. Casa Montana, Cien Fuego & Nou Raco (in Albufera) we’re favourite restaurants. Valencia is a beautiful place and I had the best time. We went to the L'Oceanographic it was so beautiful and very easy to access public transport and get to places. We were there for 4 days and 3 nights and it was the perfect amount of time to explore this beautiful place. The old town is amazing with lots of history and wonderful architecture. You can lose yourself wondering around the narrow streets to suddenly discover another small bar or restaurant. There is no shortage of high end restaurants in this city either. Lots of small shops selling unique items up to the Colon area with all the department stores and branded shops. You must go to the central market to try all the fresh food. When all that activity is too much you can hit the lovely beach with clear waters and miles of sand. A drink at the beach shack is optional but after a hard day in the sun there is a selection of restaurants to choose from.
