Argeles-Gazost is a good size town with a range of restaurants and shops plus a big market on Tuesdays (food & other goods). Away from the old town there are supermarkets and other shops. Our favourite place to eat dinner was Cafe-Hotel Les Fleurs. The local bakeries were all good but Patisserie Vignau Jean had the most impressive choice of cakes and tarts. Another find was the microbrewery "La brasserie du pays des gaves" who offer charcuterie boards alongside a range of beers. We made use of the local busses to access walks near Gavernie (seasonal service) and Cauterets for Lac de Gaube & Pont d'Espagna. The building itself is pretty smart and spaciously laid out. The hotel is a short distance from the centre of town, but we ended up staying in the bar and ate in the restaurant. The meal was very good, although the restaurant itself is a little plain, lacking soft furnishings or plants, hence little atmosphere.
