    I didn't have the time to visit most of the inner city, but from what I can tell it's rather average, somewhat well-kept but far from ambitious in its design. Probably best for one to focus on Dijon, although Besançon could still be explored on your way to the mountains

    Very nice place, Citadel is fantastic.

    Very nice place, Citadel is fantastic. Besançon is not a touristic place - and i loved it the most. Food is excellent in all the palces we visited. Very advisable to check what activities are in the Citadel the days you visit.

    We stayed one night, on a last minute decision. The town is really attractive and although there is not a huge amount to do, it is a great place to wander. The Musee des Beaux arts is absolutely outstanding - a complete surprise. We would have stayed longer if we had known how nice the town iss, especially to explore the countryside around,.

    It rained more than was good this time.

    It rained more than was good this time. Get a pass for the tram. If there are more than one of you then get a pass each rather than putting all the credits on one pass. If it is running take the boat around the Boucle, preferably on a good day. Most of the captive animals have now been taken aways from the Citadelle and that is good, it wasn't right for the lions and tigers in there or the monkeys. Don't feel bad about the rabbits, guinea pigs and poultry - they love interacting with the public. The hen was really proud showing off her new chick. If the weather is such that you can eat outside then eat outside. The food is always good, it would be hard to get a bad or expensive meal in Besak. Use the trains to have a day in Montbeliard and visit the Peugeot Adventure at Sochaux. At Montbeliard Station get on the bus, route 3, about 3 euros each. Likewise a day in Belfort is always good.

    We went to Besancon to visit a friend and had only time for a short walk around the city. We visited Victor Hugo's birthplace which was very informative, and we were delighted to see some Roman ruins preserved in the center of the city. We didn't have time to visit the museum of the Resistance and would very much like to visit it on our next trip there.

    Besancon is a nice small French town.

    Besancon is a nice small French town. It has a couple things to do in the city, but I feel like the better ones are the Citadelle and parts outside of the city. But you need a vehicle to better reach outside. I stayed 2 nights during January, it was cold and a bit windy, so going to a higher place was out of the question. Th Time Museum and Victor Hugo's birthplace are pretty cool to visit and not expensive. Lastly, I felt that people in Besancon were very friendly.

    Nice new hotel near the highway in a suburb of Besancon. Caution: Be sure to enter the zip code in the navigation system, as there is the same street name in another suburb 10 km away! Free large parking place, good restaurant (steakhouse) directly on the opposite side. Nicely furnished room, bathroom with window (a rarity in hotels!), friendly staff, very good breakfast. After breakfast, a walk through Besancon, 8 km away. We would love to come back!

    The hotel is on our list when we traveling to Spain and back. Just off the motorway. The free park car is gated and secure. Beds are comfortable and clean. Small batchroom but shower room comfortable. They accepting dogs for 7 euro. Restaurant on side. Perfect place for stop while traveling. Our pomeranian remebers the place and we arriving there she knows were she is. Staff on reception are always profesjonal and very nice. They speak english.

    A beautiful hotel in a historic building in the heights over Besançon.The room and the bathroom were spacious and we had a fine view over the garden. We couldn’t get a table in the restaurant but the receptionist gave us some good recommendations for restaurants downtown.
