Located in Cognac, Hôtel Chais Monnet offers 5-star accommodations with a bar, a spa & wellness center and a terrace. the breakfast was good, but on the expensive side and no option of just a continental breakfast. the café bar had a great atmosphere but could offer a small snack menu as the room service menu between 12 noon and 5.30pm..other than that cannot fault it, excellent!!
Located in the center of Cognac a 15-minute walk from the train station, Citotel Hotel Cheval Blanc offers air conditioned rooms with free WiFi access and a patio. Perfect for what we needed it for, sleeping and a shower in the morning. Cognac is a great city to visit and we'll stay here again!
L'Oliveraie is located a 1-minute drive from the city center of Cognac. It offers free private parking, free Wi-Fi access and an outdoor swimming pool. The young man at the front desk was extremely helpful. He gave us a map and drew out how to get to the sights we were interested in. He even called to set up a tour at one of the distilleries. This hotel is right next to the train station but we never heard a train. We were able to walk downtown, in about 10 minutes, so we didn't have to move the car and try and figure out the parking.
Conveniently located in the center of Cognac, Hotel The Originals Cognac Le Valois offers modern and comfortable rooms with free WiFi access and provides private parking. The girl at Reception was delightful and VERY helpful. The breakfast was better than most.

Cognac has a lovely old bit but also a modern part with great shops. Although we didn't go on a tour of the many cognac houses I believe that they are very good. It is only an hour by car from the beaches at Royan.
Nice old village. Not having a car we were limited to only cognac houses in town center, which was plenty for us. After arriving from La Rochelle by train around noon we were able to get into two English presentations/tasting (1.5hr each) with an hour in the museum of cognac in between. Notice, the wineries close at 5PM, so if you are there for one day only you need to get a jump start on them. Go to the Center of Tourism. They will book your tours. Pay for better cognac to try. In fact since there were two of us, we paied for one lower and one higher level cognac to be able to actually compare. Well worth the trip. I would not spend more than one day there unless you are driving and can hit smaller wineries on the outskirts of the village.
Old town gorgeous, history of cognac interesting, shopping great. There are swimming pools, picnic areas and fun parks in the vicinity which we didn't know were there, so advising visitors of this would be great.
A nice historic town that focuses almost exclusively on the cognac industry. Make sure you visit at least one cognac house to see how cognac is made but after one visit the story becomes hard sell marketing. It turns out that there are lots of things of interest in the area around Cognac but as a tourist it is surprisingly hard to find out what and where they are. Do your homework first and don't rely on the local tourist office for advice. You will need a car to get around and a visit to Rochefort a town with deep historical links to the French navy is well worth while. There is also a "Paleo Park" which is aimed at entertaining kids while still providing adults with an introduction to the work of archeologists who's are unearthing evidence of the animals and early humans who lived in the area thousands of years ago. For lovers of traditional goose liver pate there is the opportunity to visit a farm that raises geese the traditional way about 15 ks from Cognac. I was not sure what to expect but having seen the whole production cycle and the care they take of their birds I believe it is one of the most ethical meat based businesses I have seen. There is simply no comparison to the horrors of modern industrial chicken or pork production. There are some excellent restaurants in cognac including La Maison and Le Chai both of which are well worth visiting
Weekend is not a good time for visiting as everything was closed, even the shop where we wanted to buy a bottle of cognac! We stumbled upon a brilliant little restaurant called HRH Heritage but otherwise a quiet town with not a whole lot going on. Not very clear how you book into the distilleries for a tour, Remy was closed. Sunday morning we were leaving but Sunday indoor market would have been great if we had more time. The public gardens are beautiful and lovely to walk around. If we came back we would pre-book the Remy lunch & stay during a weeknight.
We ate at Le Coq D'Or. Great authentic French menu and excellent choice of cognac. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the cognac and fortunately our B&B (Maison Gaudin) was in safe walking distance because we enjoyed a few different kinds! We also recommend this B&B -- very clean and friendly. If you have time, visit Otard which is made in the castle where Francois I was born. We didn't have time for a tour so we definitely would love to return.

Great location and accommodations. Christine was a very gracious host, assisting us in scheduling cognac tours, providing excellent restaurant recommendations and she prepared a wonderful continental breakfast including fresh fruit, croissants, and homemade jams & yogurt. Our Cognac visit was definitely enhanced thanks to Christine and her hospitality.
