Excellent for families. beach in the town at 200m; several other beaches in the surrounding area by short car ride. Public buses are also available between the various coastal towns/villages. Excellent restaurants from a 1 star Michelin down to the equivalent of a British cafe (if that's your scene :( ). the more expensive restaurants it is worth booking even before you arrive as they fill out quickly. Busy at peak season but not excessively crowded. Playground by the beach and tourist train for the kids. One can easily walk to get everywhere in the town. Bi weekly market in the centre of the old part - wednesday and sunday morning. Good selection of French restaurants, and several also heavily influenced by Catalan cuisine. Several good Tapas bars.
Collioure is one of the most beautiful settlements on France's Mediterranean coast. The buildings and streets around the harbour are largely pedestrianised and extremely photogenic and it's a delight just to stroll around, settle from time to time for a drink or a meal at an outside table and enjoy the views of the town from different locations. There are plenty of restaurants, catering for most tastes and all within walking distance of our hotel. Quite a few of these offer high quality dishes (at a price) that are not standard tourist fare - for example Franco-Japanese fusion. These are more likely to be found in the back streets away from harbour front. The town has a rich artistic history inspiring the likes of Henri Matisse and Charles Renee Mackintosh. It is also a good centre for exploring the eastern end of the Pyrenees either by car or on foot. The brave could try tackling the 9,000 foot Mont Canigou. There is an excellent walk from the town to Banyuls via the Tour Madeloc for some magnificent views down to the coast. There is even a convenient bus with a flat fare of one Euro to get you back!
As I had mentioned, the language barrier can be difficult to overcome if you don’t speak French. Everyone I encountered there were kind and engaging. The town is so much fun to explore, especially walking along the shore line. I was there in November. It’s got to be much busier with more people in the summer months. What a great place to party!
There was nothing I didn't like. October was a great time to be there. Sunny and warm after rainy Paris. Fewer people on the streets compared to the summer and even less after 6pm when the bus tours left.
A very scenic town with lots of shops and restaurants and good coastal strolls. Reflects its artistic history with lots of galleries. It is however very busy at times, with parking issues, and we found some of the restaurants to be a bit more expensive than other resorts. We were not particularly interested in castles or the casino but found the Fauvism (exhibition, display?) underwhelming as it was really only a display of prints and a short explanation. The Mackintosh museum at Port Vendres was on the other hand a pleasant surprise.
Collioure is a charming small town clustered around an old castle and a beautiful bay. Delightful bars and restaurants line the coast and little narrow streets are full of artists and flowers. Fish restaurants abound and the atmosphere is happy, relaxed and inviting. The town is walkable, the beaches are broad, locals friendly and lots of choices for food and drink.
