Located in the heart of Champagne, just 66 feet from Château-Thierry, ibis Château-Thierry offers a terrace with River Marne views, garden and bar. The champagne cellars are just 0.6 mi away. Great location by the river bank, next to a mall. Quiet place. Good breakfast. Italian restaurant nearby. Free and convenient parking.
Chateau de la Marjolaine sits in the Champenois vineyards, 3.1 mi from Château-Thierry. It offers a swimming pool and guest rooms with views of the large garden and the ponds. The location and the historical chateau were wonderful. Loved the owner—he greeted us outside when we arrived and personally took us up to our suite. The food in the restaurant was excellent, although our lack of ability when it comes to speaking French led to a couple of unusual menu choices. Had the owner been there, however (he speaks English), things may have gone more smoothly. Having said that, we enjoyed our meal. After dinner the owner visited with us in a room adjacent to the dining room where the walls are covered with vintage family photographs. It was so much fun listening as he told us about his family and its history.
Located in the middle of Château-Thierry, the Hotel Hexagone offers well-equipped rooms with private bathrooms, free Wi-Fi internet access and a flat-screen TV with cable channels. Breakfast was excellent. Room was a bit small and the bathroom/toilet facilities were unique and the toilet area was cramped. But we could see the Marne River from our room.
A lovely area and worth quite a few days stay. Beautiful hillsides covered in vines. Very scenic, lovely little villages to explore. Beautiful river. Loads of outlets for delicious champagne! A very easy-going area.
If you are interested in history (World War One) and bucolic settings, this is for you. It's easy to get to off the highway, and convenient to many sites and the town itself. It's not glamorous, with a lot of good dining options--but very local and French. It also is on the Champagne trail, great if you are into the bubbly or just sightseeing.
I visit Essomes-sur-Marne regularly because I do World War One historical and military research. The Essomes-sur-Marne Ibis gives me a centrally located hotel from which I can easily reach numerous battlefields and cemetaries. After a day of driving and tromping around the countryside, the hotel is an excellent point of relaxation.
