Gerardmer is in the beautiful and dense pine forest of the Vosges. It is perfect for hiking, whether it be short and easy around the lake or hard and rocky up the mountain to visit the observation tower. Water falls and isolated villages are abundant. There's enough of storage space, modern (even if basic) shower and even a washing machine. We have stayed 3 nights and mostly cooked our meals, so we appreciated that there was a fridge, coffee maker, and even a raclette machine.
