United StatesLe Grand Barrios is a lovely old three story stone and brick home with historic roots firmly planted on the banks of the River Morin, a small tributary of the Marne. Originally a convent the Grand Barrios grew into its current form over the centuries. Our very large room on the second floor was formenry the living room. Furnished with antique furniture, its large windows overlook the back garden end the river. It has well equipped separate toilet and bath. On the ground level is a large living room, dining room and kitchen where Fred, the owner, a former chef, prepares delicious breakfast of homemade specialties and gourmet evening meals on request. Before dinner Fred and his associate Jean-Phillippe encourage his guests to gather in the living room for pre-dinner drinks and lively conversation. Free parking on site.
Although the town of Crecy-la-Chapelle may at first glance, seem like another forgotten village along the way to Meaux, its hidden charms are worth exploring. Crecy-la-Chapelle's location on the river Morin fostered trade, craft, and the textile industry during the Middle Ages. In the 19th-century, the town inspired many Barbizon School painters who nicknamed it " Venice in Brie." You can take a pleasant walk from the town square to the river, past the remaining mills and church. Look for the small signs that help explain the little known history of the interesting old river town.
