We drove a little round the area. Narbonne plage was more to our liking than Gruissan, only 20 min away. Restaurants nice. Food good. Plenty of nice wine yards with good local products. Few spoke English, not a problem for us but if you speak any French it can be a little challenging. But you will manage. Primarily French people which I find refreshing when I go to see somewhere else. Not far to old cities in the area. Gruissan marina is an attempt to duplicate the much larger resort of Cap d'Agde a few tens of miles up coast. While in Cap d'Agde they ended up spoiling the enormous sandy beaches environment building everywhere, they leaved this part mostly intact in Gruissan, which is much more balanced and still shows large patches of how was this region's seaside 40 years before. The air-con was effective, the shower was good. Towels were clean and smelt fresh! The receptionist was very helpful with ordering a taxi to the nearby train station. A few nice bars and restaurants in the area. The local market was also very good - but we didn't realise how far it was to walk to get into the centre of Gruissan. The decor is tasteful and pretty and the outdoor space is perfect for breakfast or sitting in the evening. The staff were incredibly helpful and went out of their way to help us with whatever we needed.
