Mc nultys Irish pub , run by Noel mc nulty is a wonderful place to meet lovely people and have some fun . We happened across a live Irish trad session with the great Maurice Lennon in tow ( of stocktons wing fame ) An authentic Irish pub where u will have a night to remember . Hotel marine at the port where we stayed was fab ! I wouldn’t bother with the restaurants at the port . Nicer food down the streets off the port . A fantastic place you have got to visit . We have been to La Rochelle 4 times twice with our children and twice as a couple and we absolutely love it, there are so many fabulous places to eat and it is more affordable to eat out than in Ireland. We have always felt very safe there. The city is lovely to just walk around and the cafes and restaurants and shopping are great . The old Port is perfect to base yourself in . There are some wonderful Boulangeries and Patisserie’s . I would highly recommend a visit to the Aquarium but go early to avoid crowds ( and the buggies and small crying children ) . Please note that La Rochelle Airport is tiny and has just one small cafe/ shop with limited food and duty free / gift items - which only opens an hour before flight departure . Also there is no Bag drop at this airport - you have to Q to check in your luggage so there is no point in arriving too early to the airport . A regular bus service to the airport departs from Place Verdun in the city - which is good to know as taxis to the airport are expensive circa €30 . The town and port is what makes La Rochelle special - for us. Lots of cafes, restaurants and walks. Nice shops. A train station that has 2.5 hr trains to Paris and an airport 20 mins away make it accessible. The townhall some lovely old architecture - 3 streets with collonades and a lovely cathedral. La Rochelle is a beautiful city. There was so much to do. We went to Ile D’Aix one day where we really enjoyed the Napoleon museum and the Africa Museum. We loved the towers in La Rochelle. My girls enjoyed the jewellery making at Made By Me where you can also paint a t-shirt or a cap or some ceramics. We will definitely be back and plan to go for a few days to Ile de Re as a week was probably slightly too long in the city with kids. It’s a fab place though and honestly one of the prettiest places I have been.Guest review byMarieIreland

The hotel is slightly quirky but delightful. It is perfectly situated (when you finally find it) right next to the Vieux Port and within easy walking distance of all the local bars and restaurants.
