When I go to Europe I travel everywhere by train. Except Digne (Digne-les-Bains to give it its full name). That's because the train no longer goes to Digne. To get there you take a TGV to Aix-en-Provence and catch a coach (what in America we'd call a bus) the rest of the way. And then you walk. Although if it's nice, the walk is quite pleasant. If you can find the hotel (more on that below) you meet the receptionist who I can't say enough good things about, although I don't think I ever learned her name. She was instrumental in reuniting me with the luggage that I accidentally left on the coach when I got off. Since that piece of luggage held all my medications, my computer and my passport, I would have been totally screwed had I lost it. But as it was, while I spent a very anxious 24 hours wondering whether my absentmindedness had finally done me in, this woman went way out of her way to get me and my luggage back together again. I wonder if her boss knows what a wonderful person she is?
