Hotel in Lens
Opposite the Lens Train Station, Hôtel de France is set in a historical building dating from 1900. It offers a 24-hour reception and free WiFi access is available throughout. The man at the reception desk was very cheerful and helpful. I was worried because the reviews were not very high, but the room was very clean and the electricity, outlets, wifi and shower were all very satisfactory. The common areas are a bit dated due to the age of the building, but they are clean. The location is right in front of the station and the cost is very reasonable. I will use it again when I go to Lens.

Lens is a beautiful tiwn. its train station is built in the shape of an old fashioned steam train... The Paris Louvre museum has opened an annex museum in Lens, known as the Louvre Lens.. It is also the perfect town ti visit various WW1 cemeteries, including The ring if remememberance, containing the names of every soldier killed in the Oas de Calais, including German dead. Others include Vimy Ridge, a must see, and Notre Dame de Lorrette, which contains the remains of 50,000 French dead... An amazing place... Thiepval is also very close....
There's lots to do in Lens but the town itself can look a little run down in places. However, the Louvre-Lens museum and the nature trail around it are magical. The museum offered free entrance, possibly because of Covid, during our visit. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum, the exhibits, and the design of the museum itself. For us, the museum has the perfect amount of information for each exhibit, wonderful artefacts, and some spectacular photographs. Although expensive, we enjoyed a superb meal at the restaurant, L'Atelier de Marc Meurin, in the grounds of the museum. We would like to return to Lens to see some of the World War One memorials, cycle some of the bike paths, and climb the slag heaps that are open to the public.
Musee Louvre great for a cultural trip and the investment that has bought to the local area is good to see. The environmental regeneration of the coal mines is excellent - planting, foot paths, local flora and fauna. Great to see young and old alike enjoying the skating park on skateboards, bikes, scooters a real centre for for the local community. Great football stadium. Clean town - I hope it gets more investment. Close to the route from Eurotunnel to south of france so good for an overnight stop.
Louvre -lens must see Tourist information are very accommodating and arranged an all day shuttle at a quarter of the going price included 1914-18 war museum Notre dame cathedral And the Ring Shuttles prompt and reliable
Busy town, some shops closed on the high street/city centre... same as everywhere else. I ent to see some of the WW1 memorial sites (Vimy Ridge etc), and it was a great location for that. Only took me about 15 mins to get to the small towns where the site are located
Lens is a pleasant little town with lots of cafes etc. Bit odd that every other shop was a clothes outlet, but if you like fashion then that's fine. Location was ideal for exploring the Western Front and visiting WW1 cemeteries. Locals all very friendly and town centre convenient for Louvre Lens and local museums. Lens well served by train and bus connections.
Manuel was amazing! He helped me order food delivery as the menu was limited ( no vegan options). He was diligent, extremely helpful & a wonderful asset to the hotel. He spoke great English. I was there with my two dogs. There is the beautiful Louvre Lens museum opposite the hotel with wonderful gardens to walk the dogs. Certainly, a very comfortable, modern, clean alternative to the hotels in Calais.

The room is very large and well appointed with ensuite bathroom. The furnishings and fixtures are to a very high standard. Chantal is a great hostess, making delicious breakfast and able to recommend restaurants and other services. The location is perfect, about 5 minutes from the station and also 5 minutes to the high street. Lens is a lovely town to visit for 2-3 days.
Excellent location - very close to the centre and train station. They were remodelling the restaurannt, so I was unable to try meals. It's a nice friendly little hotel, in a very good location.
