It is basically a youth hostel vibe. It feels brand new and very modern. If ikea did youth hostels. Bed ok. Room felt new Breakfast is all you can eat - bread- cereal - eggs and juice and hot drinks. The room was very clean. It was quiet. Parking is free and our dog was allowed. A bar but few alcoholic drinks on sale - red and white wine - Prosecco by the bottle. Larger and two v strong Belgium beers. Lots of soft drinks.

Room booked was a superior double but it was very small and had next to no space around the bed. In addition, the bathroom door did not close because the vanity unit blocked the way. Therefore, no bathroom privacy! However, everything else about the hotel was excellent and the staff really helpful and friendly.

A few miles from the Belgian border, Lille displays Flemish influence in both architecture and cuisine. Its most famous square - Grand Place - is home to the beautiful Vielle Borse building, the Lille Christmas markets and several restaurants serving moules-frites and local beer.
Behind that is the Palais Rihour, a rather odd-looking building surrounded by cafes. In the opposite direction is another square with the opera house at the centre and triangular-shaped buildings fanning off in 3 directions. One of these cobbled streets leads to the Old Town, where boutiques and international brands are in beautifully crafted shops.
Shopping in Lille is actually epic. It has Europe’s largest bookstore (the 8-floor Furet du Nord) and largest flea market - the Braderie de Lille. Then there is the bustling Wazemmes market and the huge Euralille shopping centre. The town also has some fantastic chocolate shops.
Other attractions include the Musée des Beaux-Arts and the Citadelle – a 17th-century fortress surrounded by a free zoo and gardens.
Lesquin Airport is on the city’s outskirts, but most visitors arrive at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, named after Lille’s most famous son. If travelling to Lille by Eurostar, check out the mural of famous European landmarks before heading to your Booking.com hotel, B&B or apartment.

Lille is vibrant with many places to eat and drink and the food is varied to meet all tastes. The architecture of the old town is very lovely with several large squares, bell towers and monuments. Attractions are going up the city Hall Belfry, the natural history museum, the house of Charles de Gaulle and walking around the Citadel. However it's worth noting that tickets for the Belfry need to be booked in advance and most attractions are not open on a Monday. There are also some art galleries (recommend the Musee La Piscine in Roubaix) that are just outside Lille and easy to get to via the Metro. Brussels and Ghent are also less than an hour away on the main line railway if you want an alternative day out.

My friend and I loved the Palais des Beaux Arts, which has a great collection of Flemish, French and Dutch art, including impressionists. We were also very lucky that there was an opera on at the opera house, which was a great experience. But we were rather disappointed by the Wazemmes market and by the selection of food available round the Grand'Place. All the cafes had the same menu, which was very limited - no vegetables and nothing much for vegetarians apart from 'Welsh'.

Less crowded and more laid back than Paris.
Great architecture. Good parks and green spaces. Canals and waterways.
Lovely area around the Citadel. The Piscine museum at Roubaix Grand Place is a real gem. Plenty of other museums and galleries. Excellent Metro and bus system. Cheap transport passes. Huge shopping mall in central Lille. We found the locals very friendly in terms of helping with directions etc. I have been on a lot of city breaks. Personally I think Lille is about the best. The other great plus for me, is that there are not too many English tourists there. Lille is very underrated. you will need 1 Euro coins if you want to go to the loo though in Lille.

Everywhere are cobbled roads and streets. Wear the right shoes. Lille itself has brilliant architecture, lovely shops, lots of small lanes to wander. A nice canal to walk along. The citadel is interesting too. The Palais de beaux arts is a good visit too.

its to far from the flea market, which was the reason for coming here, when you are a buyer, back and forth to the braderie to much. The parking facility awful and misrepresented which marred our whole visit. The morning breakfast of the english cooked items mostly cold, the french items all good. The evening meals very limited menu, but the food was delicious.,

The hotel was freshly decorated in a wonderfully flamboyant French style. Our room, though small, was cleverly laid out so included everything that we could have needed. The bed was comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean. Our hosts, despite having not a word of English, did everything to make our stay enjoyable. The breakfasts were fine and great value for money. The location suited us well. It was about a ten minute walk to both the city centre and Lille Europe train station.
A centrally located modern hotel, only 10 minutes from Lille Europe station and within 5 minutes to central squares. Very clean with a great breakfast and snacks/tea/coffee/juices provided throughout the day in a lovely lounge area. A range of drinks are also available to order and are reasonably priced. There is a small fitness centre as well.
The big call out is to the staff who were great and were always available and helpful.
Not a luxury hotel by any means but clean, good location, very friendly and helpful staff, excellent value. Breakfast was fine. Lille was a big surprise especially the friendliness and helpfulness of the residents. Metro (50 metres from hotel) great. Cheap too. Eating out much cheaper than in the Netherlands.
Fabulous stay in the beautiful city of Lille. Chris was the perfect host providing us with all the information we needed to enjoy our stay in Lille. Accommodation was outstanding (best we've stayed in during our travels in France - yes it was that good). Stop reading this review and start booking your stay here.
