Located in a typically Basque village, surrounded by greenery, this rustic hotel has a shaded garden backing onto the River Nive. Its spacious terrace offers panoramic mountain views. A beautiful location with welcoming staff and a very comfortable room with a great shower! Although we didn't have breakfast, we had dinner on the terrace one evening and the food was excellent. The girl at reception ( who also works as the waitress) was lovely.
Ferme Ithurburia is a 1-century old former farm located in Saint-Michel, 3.7 mi from Spain. It offers panoramic views of the valley and free Wi-Fi access at the main reception. The location was breathtaking! And as we started our Camino, we did so with a hearty breakfast!
Located in Saint-Michel, 1.5 mi from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, Chambre d'hôtes Altzia 1 provides a shared lounge and free WiFi. There is a fully equipped private bathroom with shower and a hairdryer. Maite was a wonderful host! The location is fabulous and the accommodation is very pleasant and comfortable. Great breakfast too.
Offering a garden, Guéraçague Etcheverry Garaya is located in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Biarritz is 27 mi from the property. Free private parking is available on site. The placed was billed as 1km from town, it was more like 3km and there were no services around and they didn't provide coffee to make. The street is not safe after dark if your walking.
Gite Antton features free WiFi throughout the property and views of mountain, 1.2 mi from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port city center. The property also has a terrace and offers a shared lounge. A lovely location on the outskirts of SJDPP, gave us a bit of a head start on crossing the Pyrenees, and the hosts were delightful
Ideal stop if you want to begin the Camino on the same day that you arrive in St.Jean Pied de Port.It gives you a head start on the long slog to Roncesvalles the following morning. Wear mosquito repellant! Not that there were many around but one persistent moquito got into our bedroom and did plenty of damage! It was the 1st time I've been bitten in 5 years of doing various stages of the Camino.
When we booked we were told the restaurant was closed on Wednesdays, the night we would be staying however when we arrived (Four adults) we told the owner's that we had stayed here before in 2010, they then told us that as a special for us they would open the restaurant. Apart from the owners and their family we were the only others in the restaurant but served like royalty and treated like family. A wonderful experience, if you are going to Saint Jean Pied de Port to start the Camino, go the extra 3km and stay at Saint-Michel.
