Ideal to spend some days away from the rat-race we live in. Wonderfull restaurants that offer fruits-de-mer (make sure you make a reservation), friendly people and space to do long and quiet walks. Take the historical train to Le Crotoy, and spend a day strolling around and enjoy the view on the Somme from one of the many bars and restaurants.
It was a very successful trip. A great town to visit, with excellent facilities: lots of restaurants, shops for souvenirs, antics, clothes, shoes & so on, excellent bakeries, a splendid promenade on the sea front, the wonderful steam railways which is not to be missed (check end of season for steam, but have a great journey from Saint Valery to Le Crotoy or Cayeux), a fantastic typical French market where you can find amazing food. Lots of activities possible, from walk in town to guided walks, boat trips, kayak, possible to go and see the seals (ask at the information office, trips are organised also for walks), exploration of the old medieval city, herb gardens, walk the Fishermen's quarters, visit the 'Calvaire des Marins', other chapel and churches, easy bike rides around.... Close to other nice places to visit. Do not miss a trip to Le Tréport and use the free Funiculaire too. We have a favorite restaurant, simple where food is good: Le Drakkar, the restaurant menu is just right, has a good selection of dishes.
Don't be fooled by the photographs of the apartment. We arrived to find the room hadn't been serviced. The bed was unmade and left as the previous occupants had left it. Dirty towels were hung up in the shower room and the toilet was dirty. We tried to contact the owner using the contact details provided but no answer. We did not stay and found alternative accommodation. We requested a refund which was denied by both Booking.com and PayPal. They claimed the service had been provided. Obviously their standards are very low. The owner was never contacted by either Booking.com or PayPal. Never again. Definitely not recommended.
St. Valery is a beautiful, peaceful village but with things to do and see and we love going there. In mid September most restaurants close between 2 and 7pm for meals. However there is plenty of choice when open. Nearby towns and villages are worth visiting.
Alright for a break in the North-South journey. A bit expensive for what is on offer. no hanging space or place for luggage. breakfast alright but restricted on times. Plenty of secure parking and close enough to walk into town.
A truly beautiful town situated in the Baie de la Somme nature reserve. Cycling, walking, nature observing are all popular activities, as well as the train ride to Le Crotoy. Spotted a seal or two and many different bird species. There are many restaurants and bars, and several supermarkets/butchers/fishmongers etc. The walk along the promenade as the sun sets is memorable. One criticism is the cost of carparking; even in the outskirts of the town. Way too expensive and local businesses are suffering because of it. There is free carparking available, and folks can enjoy the walk into town along the promenade. About 25 - 30 mins I think altogether by foot.
Saint-Valéry-sur-Somme
Good location, not far from the center of Saint Valery (15-20 min walk), and not far from the main roads to leave the town by car and visit the nearbys. Small house well equiped (velos almost new, all the necessary tools for cooking)
