Interesting little town. Visit for the history but don't stay overnight. Restaurants are ok. The hotel I stayed in was very disappointing. The museum is good and the church is worth seeing but as I mentioned, a nice place to visit for an afternoon but no need to stay the night
I wanted to see Sainte Mère Eglise because of it's History Where one of the famous battles of World War II took place , I became emotionally attached to the Allied soldiers who were killed in the battles of Normandy
Lovely little town with enough eating places for all couple of nights stay. Fantastic and interesting museum dedicated to the 101st Airbourne. Lots of nearby historical places, including the D day beaches and German gun Batteries. This whole area of Normandy is teeming with WW2 historical sites.
One of the iconic WWII sites for US residents. The first village liberated on D-Day continues to welcome Americans happily. The Airborne Museum is a wonderful option, as are the nearby D-Day beaches, Easy Company sites, etc.
I went outside the normal season so my choice of where to have dinner was very limited. Do not expect to do much shopping between 1200-1400 since many places close, at least in October. If you want to want and see the history then anytime might be the right time.
Sainte-Mere-Eglise was a delightful town and perfectly located for discovering the rich history and heritage of Normandy. The market on the square was an added value as local merchants sold fresh produce and local wares. The town is a wonderful location to enjoy a quiet get away and relax in the beautiful Norman countryside. The architecture is magnificent. The immediate town is dominated by the 82nd Airborne Division which landed there as part of the D-Day invasion. It could use some displays for the 4th Infantry Division which landed on Utah Beach made the final push to drive the German forces from the area. The museum at Utah Beach and the museums at the batteries north of town fill in the gaps for the 4th Infantry Division.

The hotel was just lovely! Demetrius was also charming and added a wonderful touch of friendly feeling to the place. We really enjoyed all the information he shared with us and just thought the place was perfect. My sister in law was visiting from the US and this was her first time in a B&B, and she was so impressed!

We didn't realize the D-Day historical significance of the location until we went into the Parachute museum. Also the long term history of the site is great and the owners of the property took time to show us around. Nothing like you would get in staying at a regular hotel.
