The property was absolutely beautiful. It is completely authentic and decorated in artifacts and special prices from the families adventurers over the years. The château has been in the family for over 200 years. The grounds are pretty and very charming with cows, chickens, rabbits and flowers. The owners are so sweet. We we’re excited to meet Anne Charlotte who is an absolute jem.

The Panoramic is a fine modern hotel perched impressively on a cliff looking out on the rolling vineyards of Sancerre. It is worth noting that the rooms with a street view are half the price of the rooms overlooking the vines. The "view" is available from the long public balcony on that side of the hotel where wine can be enjoyed and satisfactory photograph made. We liked the street side as we could keep an eye on our car parked below. There is no secure parking but, at least in October, there were plenty of spaces where parking was perpendicular the the high wall of the hospital grounds. It is a ten minute walk to the top of the hill where there seems to be ample public parking. There is much of interest in restaurants, wine bars, and antique selling at the top of the hill. The attached photos show the Google maps view and the parking across the street. After tasting several pedigrees of the real Sancerre in that balcony, we tried a Pouilly-Fumé which is apparently a generally less tart wine, though still made from the Sauvignon Blanc grape. It was, but ultimately we ended up buying a few bottles of Pouilly-sur-Loire (a separate appellation) in the nearby town of Pouilly-Fumé to take home. This white wine is made from the Chasselas grape and is much less acidic. The curious obsession with the Sauvignon Blanc grape is, one might say thankfully, partially displaced by less acid fruit in the more westerly appellations of the Loire Valley

The breakfast exceeded expectations. The eggs were exceptionally good as were the croissants. Very friendly service. Couldn’t have been more pleased. Bernard Fleuriet was exceedingly friendly. See photo at breakfast.

    This is a 500 year old chateau, not a hotel.

    This is a 500 year old chateau, not a hotel. This is the first thing you need to keep in mind to get your expectations in line. Secondly, it is about 10-12 minutes from Sancerre, so it is truly "in the countryside.". That being said, it was a wonderful break from normal hotels. The property has all sorts of charm. The hostess was lovely – attentive and spoke perfect English (which was helpful for my wife and me). I would highly recommend this so long as you know what to expect. Also, the value proposition is excellent, and it was nice to stay in the countryside for one day in our travels through the Loire Valley.

    The history and grandness of the Chateau, made the stay a real "experience". So many hotels don't make memories, we will never forget the night spent in the haunted castle. The breakfast was great and taken in the grand dining room and our host Carol was very pleasant and happy to muddle through with our lack of French.
