what a delightful stay for only one night. the grounds are simply beautiful- a large garden patio area with the pool on one side. so pleasant to sit there in the evening. a terrific breakfast buffet is worth every euro (14) - everything from a “6 minute” egg you boil yourself ( there’s some kind of special set up) to yogurt, local jams, bread so fresh! etc. the highlight is the mini croissant which was every bit as good as the manager said. the hotel itself is a bit run down, but my room was very comfortable. the hotel is almost on the river Creuse -a one minute walk takes you to the riverside with simply charming views of the opposite hill, and old mills nearby that powered a variety of businesses a hundred or three hundred years ago. the manager, Caroline, was so completely charming and helpful with excellent English . she was the one who really made my stay special. TIP: definitely reserve one of the few parking spots for a modest surcharge

Location was perfect, lovely gardens on the river. We ate outside which was lovely and also in the dining room, filled with decor suggesting the 19th century. The Duchess room is named after the previous owner and is delightful. Our room was decorated with Spanish decors but had a very modern twin shower. Comfortable and luxurious. Excellent breakfast, which could include hot and cold choices , plentiful varied cheese and cold cuts. Fresh strawberries and orange juice. Pastries and fresh bread. The hosts were perfect, friendly helpful and made what was a special place superb
