Ideal location to visit the surrounding area. Less than an hours drive to Collioure, Villfranche and the Cathar castles of Queribus and Peyrepertuse. Carcassonne is within easy reach and even as far as Barcelona across the Spanish border.
It was easy to park in Thuir and the town was full of interesting sculptures. You could see it was taking a great pride in keeping itself up to a certain standard and the renovations of church and other buildings were being carefully done. We had a lovely meal at Le Patio Catalan which was worth the trip in itself. Chef David Vincent. Michelin Standard. And as Thuir is not on hills it is easy to walk around the whole town/village.
If you look up Thuir on the internet and look at 'images' you're going to see a lot of photos of a beautiful, ancient village clinging to the foothills of the Pyrenees surrounded by stunning countryside. Don't be fooled; that is not Thuir, it's Castelnou - 10 minutes away - and the fact that visitors to this ordinary, noisy, work-a-day town post photos of Castelnou instead tells you all you need to know about Thuir.
“This was a beautiful small hotel with lovely rooms. Comfortable, stylish, clean and friendly. Ideally you need a car as it's difficult to walk anywhere.”
“Very nice hotel with pretty grounds. Rooms were comfortable and clean with air conditioning. The breakfast is usually from 8.30am but we needed to leave early so they accommodated us with a 7.30am breakfast which was really kind. It was great value for money.”
