Hotel in Aberfeldy
Located in the Aberfeldy Conservation Area, the historic Schiehallion Hotel offers a bar, bistro, and free Wi-Fi. The listed property was built in 1884 and is within a 4-minute drive of Castle... We were on the top floor (3rd no lifts) in a large spacious room (8.) with an equally large bathroom which looked virtually new. There was one small window but with a pretty view from the bed. Dinner and breakfast is in an area off the bar and breakfast was very good with a wide choice. Our bonus was a day of light snow which enhanced the view out the window and around the town.

This was a chill out break for us, so we did not plan much on this trip except relax which I think I can safely say we did. We did a couple of strolls about the town and nothing has changed since we last stayed at Moness (2017). We knew the facilities aroun the town and had planned or Evening meals making use of takeaways; Plaice in the square and Chillies. There are two routes down to the village; via the back gate and out the front path through the lower Birks park. The former is quite steep back up and my wife had to rest a couple of times; the route via the lower Birks park was much more comfortable for her. As a former owner, we knew what to expect and we would go back again.
I went for the whisky. The distillery is one of my favourites and well worth a visit. Great walks on the Tay and enough to do in an evening. The Indian opposite the hotel was fantastic (I live in Bradford so I know my curry houses) and great value for money.
An amazing small Scottish town on the edge of the Highlands. Loads of small independent shops plus a reasonably sized supermarket. Great independent bookshop, cafes and several good restaurants. Visit adjoining villages including Kenmore on the banks of Loch Tay. A great trip is to travel north from Aberfoyle to visit Castle Menzies; onward to visit the Keltneyburn Smithy for unique locally made metal sculptures, then to the Arts and Crafts hotel at Fortingall. Go a bit further and drive/walk through upper Glen Lyon - possibly Scotland's most beautiful Glen. A round trip of around forty miles - quite uplifting.
A small, sleepy but pretty town with three grocery stores (including a large and well-stocked Coop supermarket and a cinema. Not too much in the way of classy restaurants but The Fountain pub and the Birks Cinema cafe both have extensive and enjoyable menus. The Watermill Bookshop cafe is pleasant, very popular but currently with limited capacity due to staff shortages. On the edge of the village the Birks of Aberfeldy provides a lovely circular walk through woodland and along a bubbling burn with picturesque waterfalls. Seven miles from Aberfeldy, the Scottish Crannog Centre is fascinating. Unfortunately its one crannog burned down in June but there is still a museum and displays of Iron Age crafts. In 2022 the centre will move to a much larger site on the other side of Loch Tay with several crannogs.
Aberfeldy is a gem of a place! Stunning scenery is a backdrop to a bustling wee place with a wide variety of bespoke shops, wee pubs, cafes and eateries - and of course a distillery! Riverside walks, parks and plenty of parking make this ideal for a lone traveller, couples or families - lots to do and see. Warm and welcoming, will definitely be back!
Beautiful place to stay. Loads of different options, depending on what you want for a holiday. Birks of Aberfeldy were amazing! Loved our walk there, pPlenty of places to eat. The Birks cinema do amazing breakfast, highly recommend.
It’s a basic hotel, nothing fancy at all. However, it’s clean, the staff are friendly and it’s in a nice location. Room was clean and tidy, no problems at all. Breakfast was lovely in the morning. Staff very friendly. Was slightly nervous about booking because of some previous reviews, however I can say that any negatives were exaggerated. It’s a nice and simple hotel, clean and with friendly staff. Nearby pubs are great, Italian restaurant round the corner is amazing too

The hotel was well decorated, clean, tidy and organised. The facilities were excellent, especially given the price. We did not have time to have breakfast as we had to leave earlier than breakfast start time of 8:30am, but the dining area looked organised and clean and a nice place to sit and have some breakfast.
