Scenic coastal walks. Interesting history, including a very good museum. Very friendly people. Walking uphill into town with our bags a lovely woman stopped her car and insisted on giving us a lift to the door of our hotel!
First time to Alderney week, just great, torch light procession very special, bonfire and fireworks great so very well organised! Let's hope this stays for future generations, will be going back for sure.
Alderney is a compact island and easily explored on foot from St Anne. The footpaths are well maintained and there are several good walks leaflets available from the Tourist Information Centre. The Nunnery Roman site was a very interesting place and located on a lovely sandy bay. There is a lot of military heritage here including Victorian forts and World War II sites. The history of the island is fascinating and the small museum run by volunteers is well worth a visit. St Anne has a number of nice places to eat and Braye is a short walk away. The local taxi service was good but recommend booking in advance - especially if you need picking up or dropping off at the airport.
My wife and I lived there for many years and Alderney is a wonderful island with many attractive and undeveloped beaches. It is small and has few hotels, some of which have struggled to keep going and our one for 2 nights because we were leaving the island having sold our house there is not yet running well.
Everything about Alderney was so laid back and friendly. We had meals at various places but make sure you book well in advance because you might be caught out. Hire cars, cycles, taxis and by foot. No buses.
Visit the Odeon museum a must for all ages. Not accessible for Elderly with mobility problems. Braye beach is a must for a family beach holiday. Quant, quiet, laid back . Where time has stood still. The locals are so friendly.
