Alfriston is old and beautiful with many half timbered buildings. It has a lovely village green and church. The Clergy House is well worth a visit. There is a good choice of places to eat. there is a very nice coffee shop called the Singing kettle with delicious cakes. And we had supper at the George and Dragon which was very good both food and ambience. We were walking the South Downs way towards Eastbourne. I was disappointed with Alfriston generally. A couple of second rate antique type shops and an uninspiring deli. Unfortunately because of the times of year (December) most places in and around Alfriston were closed. However this did not detract from this peaceful, pretty and historic village. I would definitely go again, earlier in the year when places are open We ate at the place we stayed ‘The Olde Smugglers Inne’ but they only serve excellent food in the evenings. Alfriston is well worth a longer visit than the few hours we spent here. The high street has so many old and interesting buildings including about three pubs.
