I was attending a College reunion at what is now the University of Cumbria.
I started at the college - then called Charlotte Mason College - to train as a teacher 50 years ago.
Having lived there in 1974 - 1977 there are obviously a lot of changes in the town but there is still a good mix of old and new.

A very nice area.
A very nice area. Did plenty of walking around in the country which was grand. Driving is a little bit of a pain due to the single track roads in some areas but it is to be expected with such an area and is part of what allows it to be such a good place for walking.

Commercial centre with plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants. It’s lively with constant traffic, so not a place for peace and quiet, but that can be found in other places (many just a short walk away). I like to stay in Ambleside for the amenities.

It is great for non drivers as there is an excellent bus service to all the stunning locations. Ambleside is beautiful and full of eateries for every taste. Afterwards you can walk off your dinner by seeing waterfalls that are in walking distance from the town. All the buildings are full of character. I would definitely recommend it.
The staff I met at ferndale was lovely and the hotel was a very short walk from all the bars and restaurants. Amazing views, hotel provided hand wash, body wash and clean towels, and they put me in the dog friendly room at the back of the building which I was thankful so I wasn’t worried about barking ect. I have been to the lakes for the last few years and this is the only hotel I would be happy to visit again.
A lovely picturesque cottage on a cute terrace in the middle of Ambleside with parking right outside. Lots of space for everyone, a bathroom in every room (plus other communal bathrooms). Lovely well tended gardens front and rear with nice furniture. It has a drying room too for avid walkers. There's loads of space for a lot of people to share, and still not be on top of each other.
Lovely Boutique Hotel, 5 minutes walk to Lake Windermere (Ambleside) and 10 minutes walk to Ambleside Town.
