Luigie's is a most authentic Italian restaurant, reasonable prices. It is near the bus terminal. Plenty of easy walks direct from Ambleside. Climbing Lough Rigg is a must for the view of windermere lake at the top. The Coffin Run to Grasmere , on the Rydal Hall side, is very pleasant. Get the bus from Grasmere to Keswick for some wonderful mountain views.
The little cottage was gorgeous! Facilities were great 😊 All lovely rooms, very clean. Comfortable and plenty of hot water. We put the heating in just for a little while when we arrived at 8pm , as we were tired and cold. Did not need it on again, as it was very comfortable and the weather held out all week . The only two downsides were the tight entrance between two large pillars, but I understand that the rustic of the entrance would be ruined if changed. The very speedy road (at times) to get across to the garden for us with dogs. Yet it was a beautiful view and such a shame not to use it . We loved Ambleside town and Windermere. The little ferry there and Beatrix Potters house and gardens. The views from everywhere were stunning 🤩
The Fishbech hotel was fabulous with a quick 10 minute walk to the town. Very easy to get round Ambleside with bus , car or taxi. Lovely to walk around and take in the views. We went up Ambleside Water falls, so great hike. Ambleside Inn pub was lovely & good food. Very dog friendly. Always a must the Apple Pie cafe.
Ambleside is still a lovely town in a beautiful setting; it is surrounded by fells ( have been visiting for over 40 years). It’s a great base for walking…..straight from Ambleside itself if you wish, and not far from other pretty towns in the Lakes……scores of walks of all grades to keep you occupied for as long as your stay is. Good selection of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Obviously very busy in the summer and even busier in good weather(!) which makes the increased road traffic & parking a bit mind boggling, but escaping into the fells is for us, the perfect antidote.
Beautiful town. Fab ambiance. Shopping surprisingly good. Ate at The Copper Pot and The Royal Oakl both were below average despite having a 5 star rating. Parking is a grade one nightmare. If you do manage to get a spot you realise that you have to go to a local shop to obtain a blue disk. Beware if you're picking anyone up from windermere train station all parking is via Ring Go and if ur not very technical with downloading apps etc it's odds on you'll get a fine. 3 options... scan & pay, ring to pay (recorded message on repeat - didn't work) download app which I found very difficult to understand. Noone to speak to - no humans - chat box on app no use at all - email is a no reply. Absolute NIGHTMARE!
Dog friendly shops and restaurants, ample outdoor equipment shops. Pity the parking is a bit difficult as the place gets very busy. Our guesthouse provided free parking pass to use in Ambleside during our stay so this was very handy. Lovely walks in the surrounding area. Good bus service around the area.
Ambleside
Location was excellent. Beautiful views, river across the road, great cafe and hotel/restaurant close-by. Location was peaceful and plenty of local walks. Cottage was delightful with lovely garden where we were regularly visited by robins. On-site parking too! We liked the info about how the cottage got its name and pointers for walks. We would definitely stay there again.
The hotel was beautiful and decorated to a very high standard. It's location was perfect and a 5 minute walk into Ambleside. We didn't eat in the hotel but the breakfast was amazing, one of the nicest breakfasts we have had on our trip. Our room was lovely and had everything we wanted. Would definitely recommend staying at Rothay Manor.
Ambleside
Like everywhere in the Lake District, the Wateredge seems to be having issues with staff. However, the staff there were all really friendly and worked incredibly hard. The hotel and location were perfect. We plan to return to Wateredge in the near future. Thanks, for a lovely stay. Also, we took our dog and it was very dog friendly.
Ambleside
We couldn't fault this lovely accommodation. The decor was beautiful, gentle colours, soothing with quality fittings. Breakfast was not only delicious but perfectly presented. The hosts could not have been more helpful. We absolutely loved it here and with the background of the Lake District in spring - perfect!
Ambleside
The rooms had a lot of character about them, not your standard looking hotel rooms. Very spacious and clean, the staff members were lovely, and breakfast was great. Only about 5mins drive into Ambelside which has everything you'd need, and very close to Lake Windermere.
Nice, decent size and bright room with spacious bathroom that met our expectations. In the heart of Ambleside, which is a little gem of a town. Whilst the hotel rooms are above the pub and in the town centre, there was very little noise and we had great nights sleep.
Ambleside
Perfect location , convenient for everything in ambleside Parking space outside is very valuable in ambleside The property was very central but at the same time it was in a very quiet spot There are many walks in the area from the doorstep
The rooms were extremely comfortable and the breakfast was one of the best we have had when visiting Ambleside. There was plenty to choose from for our little one too. We would definitely stay again.

Hotel very cosy and welcoming. Leisure facilities and breakfast were superb for the price. Great location with parking at the door. All staff very friendly.
