Located in Appleby, New Crown Inn features a restaurant, bar, garden, and free WiFi throughout the property. The hotel has family rooms. At the hotel, all rooms come with a closet. Out of the 3 hotels we stayed at this was by far the cheapest and easily the best. Rooms were very nice, breakfast was excellent and service very good.
Near the beautiful River Eden, in the ancient town of Appleby in Westmorland, this traditional 17th century coaching inn offers free Wi-Fi and rooms with attached bathroom. I generally choose hotels rather than Inns, but was impressed by the value for money of this one so gave it a go. I wasn't disappointed! The room was very well appointed, clean & very comfortable. Bathroom was exceptional and large compared with a lot of hotels. We stayed at the Inn for evening dinner and chose the steak which was the best we'd tasted for a long time. Highly recommended! The breakfast too was very good. Overall, I could not fault our stay, would definitely recommend this Inn and would certainly choose to stay here again.
In the medieval town of Appleby, just outside the Lake District, Tufton Arms Hotel was originally a 16th Century coaching inn, it is now a Grade II listed building. After a long journey it was bliss to arrive to such a friendly welcome and a warm fire. I felt really taken care of throughout my stay and wouldn't hesitate to book again in future.
The Mews Appleby In Westmorland, Near Lake District without Lakes prices is located in Appleby. Lovely modernised cottage with everything you could need for a stay (including the pizza place over the road!). Excellent communication made for easy key collection along with full Covid-safe aspects looked after. Lovely local walks and it's easy to access the Lakes and walks.
Blacksmith Cottage, Appleby-in-Westmorland is located in Appleby. The accommodation is 30 miles from Keswick, and guests benefit from private parking available on site and free WiFi. Very clean, a lot of thought had been put into different facilities within the cottage, even a slow cooker.
The village was great and lots of local shops to go and investigate. It is probably one of the only remaining places I have been to with a proper old high street including the butchers, greengrocer, bakers and chemist. A great place to go and visit if you get the chance.
Appleby is a really sweet town, we visited just after the horse fair so the locals where just trying to get reorganised after a very busy weekend. Highly recommend The Hare & Hounds Pub - locals & staff made us incredibly welcome. Avoid Appleby Castle - staff are hopeless & the owner is incredibly rude! A sentiment shared by people of the town. I had to get my bank involved for a refund for a tour they wouldn't honour due to a mistake on their system but they where so rude! Just look at it from the grounds.
Sleepy little village, two pubs open great food at crown and cushion and great friendly staff at both here and hare and hound. Sandwich bar around corner from pub fresh baguettes with loads of choice of fillings very cheap. Age concern charity shop worth a browse. Lovely little church that rang its bells whilst we were there. River very low little bridge but a great walk along the path. Hill up to the castle were we stayed. If you are after a quiet drink and a break from the city this was the ideal place to stay.
The town is very much focused on the castle, and much of it is quite old. We were there on a Sunday, so most things were shut, but there seem to be quite the range of shops, both antique/boutique sort of places and more normal ones, and several thriving pubs alongside one or two disused ones. One could be round the town in an hour or less if one didn't stop to look at anything, but there are definitely things to stop and look at. We got a nice cream tea from the Crown & Cushion inn and then had to go!
We were only in Appleby for one night so had little change to check out the shops and restaurants but when we decided to eat at the Royal Oak were were not disappointed in the least, the choice and quality of the food and drinks were excellent.
Appleby is a fascinating market town in a little-visited part of the North, and quite unlike any other small town in Cumbria. A pity that some of its historical attractions were closed because of Covid 19!
Pleasant and communicative staff. Excellent large walk-in shower. Hotel seems to have been fairly recently refurbished, and was clean and well-decorated. Village is quiet, unremarkable, and fairly tourist-free - good features for us - and the only notable sight, the village church, dating from Saxon and Norman times, is opposite the pub. The food we had was good but the menu was very limited (4 of the 8 main dishes available were variations on 'burger)
Great cottage in a great location. Appleby is a lovely little place, lots of character, some nice pubs and ideally located for fell walks in all directions. High cup nick, wensleydale and eastern lakes all within easy reach. Cottage was clean, had everything we needed and lovely sunny living space upstairs (upside down house). Coop just across the road was perfect for supplies.
Very comfortable bed. The rooms were nice and warm. The furniture was to a good standard. There was some milk, fruit juice and cereal to have in the kitchen. Nice and quiet location with parking yet right in the heart of the town. Friendly and helpful staff. The main hotels public rooms were lovely.
Incredible property. Beautiful, peaceful, comfortable. Great facilities. Great staff. Surprisingly affordable. Beautiful small town of Appleby just outside the castle gates. Michelin star quality dining.Look forward to returning in future.
