Lots of information about the local area, places to visit and great places to eat.

The hosts were the best, and the attention to detail in the accommodation was impeccable. All the essential items were in the accommodation. The unobstructed view the snow covered peaks was outstanding. As was the local bird life.

Arrived after 6 on a bank holiday, after about and hour or so couldn't find anywhere to eat, and only the co-op open. Bank Holiday but couldn't find anywhere to eat,- pub meals, fish shop etc. I can't walk very far so perhaps they were there. It didn't seem a very exciting place.
Limited by time but great potential
The length of my stay overnight/one night arriving just before dark and leaving early next morning meant that I had no time to explore Aspatria. However, I can recommend the Red Lion Inn for warmth and welcome.
If you want a village half an hour south of Carlisle, therefore not far south of the Scottish border AND close to the North Western Lake District and the West Cumbrian coast, Aspatria is ideal. Travelling up the west coast is an alternative route to reach Keswick whilst the A591 is still closed or as another route anytime.
