I had imagined Aviemore to be an old town like Pitlochry and Dunkeld, but in fact all the buildings in the Main Street seem to be fairly new, apart from the railway station. It has lots of shops selling outdoor clothing, and is not very attractive architecturally.

I enjoyed our autumn hikes both close to the lodge and further away in the national park. Fall foliage was gorgeous and great October weather. Our favorite meal in Aviemore was at Delaney's, a nice restaurant on the opposite end of town from the lodge. Though we have a rental car, we walked to restaurants and used the car for short trips to more hiking and to nearby villages. I particularly enjoyed a visit to Nethy Bridge and a charming restaurant, the Nethy House Cafe. If I ever return to the area, I would consider using that town as a base just as an alternative.

We've stayed at the hotel before. Places within easy reach are Corrieshalloch Gorge, Inverness, Fort George, Brodie Castle, Culloden Battlefield, Ruthven Barracks, Loch Garten, Cairngorm mountain railway, the Highland village at Newtonmore, Landmark Forest adventure Park and the Highland wildlife park an Kincraig. There are many other sites to visit too such as Chanonry Point to see the wild dolphins.

I love this neck of the woods.

I love this neck of the woods. Plenty to do if you are an outdoors person or just want a break from busy places. It is a nice laid back location where there is a lot less hassle. Lots of nice food places - either restaurants or take-aways and plenty of shops where you could buy your own food if you don't want to go out. Highly recommended. If the weather is not so good there are plenty of lovely places you can drive to within 45 minutes.

Aviemore is obviously a town built around tourism, and so is fairly expensive, and not particularly historic. But it has all the necessary facilities, with a good choice of bars and restaurants, and its in a great location to explore the Cairngorms.

Aviemore has a great buzz about it – a proper gateway to the Cairngorms with a strong tourist vibe that makes it feel lively year-round. The high street is packed with outdoor shops, from big names like Ellis Brigham and Tiso to smaller independents, so whether you’re after hiking boots, ski gear or a new waterproof, you’re well catered for. There’s also a good mix of cafés, pubs and restaurants, which keeps the place welcoming after a day outdoors. It’s the kind of town where you instantly feel in “holiday mode,” with a steady flow of visitors giving it energy without losing its Highland charm.

Traditional hotel in an excellent location for exploring Aviemore and beyond. Staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I had requested a room with a bath and this was provided which made all the difference to my fiancé who had just completed a marathon. The bed was also very comfortable & the black out blinds in the room meant we had a very restful sleep. We also opted for the room-service breakfast and this was fantastic. Portions were huge & everything tasted delicious. Thank you!

What a nice place to stay if you're passing Aviemore. We wanted to visit the mountains and this hotel was in a good spot. The room was amazing, so was the food. The personnel was very friendly. There was live music in the café. Just lovely.
