We had a lovely walk around Banff before breakfast as the sun rose - along the beach, round the harbour and back through the town. The previous evening we were quite late arriving - limited sit-down restaurants open by then. A great base for visiting the whole northern coast.
Banff is a bit of a hidden gem. It was many fine Georgian buildings, a vibrant harbour and a beautiful beach in a dramatic coastal setting. It has a remarkable graveyard with graves dating back to the 1500s. It's not really on the tourist trail which can make some amenities like good cafes and pubs to eat a bit thin on the ground. The fish and chip shop was however, excellent.
Very picturesque harbour, beautiful looking beach, but lots of steep streets so if you have poor mobility not really the best place to walk around. We were told about a well known shop and it was ok, but the coffee shop was even better and their is a lift if you can't walk up the stairs. Their are some quaint shops, but I think you would need to be local to find these hidden treasures.
This is a lovely northern Scottish seaside town. We were able to visit the Ship Inn Bar where the Local Hero pub scenes were filmed. very friendly people and a great base for exploring the north of Scotland.
The cottage was beautifully equipped with everything we needed. The comfiness of the beds needs particular mention as does the cleanliness of the property. We would highly recommend this holiday cottage and hope to return in the future.
The town has limited facilities with many shops closed down. Limited choice of restaurants unless you want to drive. We eat at a local Indian Restaurant, Indian Garden in Bridge Street, which was excellent, but there were very few if any other restaurants in the town out with the Hotel.
The owner was so welcoming and attentive, at breakfast we were spoiled for choice from cereals, fruit, yoghurt, butteries (a local breakfast roll) and a cooked breakfast of your choice and toast with a choice of jams & marmalade. The hotel also does lunches and dinner which were made by the owner and were delicious, I would recommend the Cullen Slink which is a local soup with smoked fish, potatoes and milk or cream and the steak pie. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Lovely homely accommodation. Would recommend this if you're looking for something in Banff - Gill went over and above to ensure we were comfortable.
Nice hotel in a good location only downside was I thought it was a bit expensive
Great staff and lovely hotel definitely worth the money
