Bangor is a lovely quiet seaside town without a beach but with a lovely marina and coastal walks in either direction to Hollywood etc and Ballyholme. Shopping is a pleasant experience as good shops all within small area. And lots of nice cafés and restaurants. It has a relaxed but not sleepy atmosphere during the day. . I know this as I am a regular visitor from Belfast. This was my 1st time staying overnight and happy to have booked The Astala. Great winter deals at very good prices. Met a lovely Scottish couple who felt the place to be a bit too quiet at night. We were there for a private Christmas party in nearby Donaghadee but can imagine it would be! I will definitely book The Astala again. Very comfortable with nice décor. Quite tasteful.
Bangor Castle and the North Down Museum are worth a visit. Bangor itself has several pubs (I'd recommend Fealty's for a good selection of beer and whiskey as well as live music on some nights- staff and regulars are very friendly), and restaurants (I was particularly impressed by Kook Eatery). The harbour area is done up very well- even the empty storefronts were decorated with murals.
Wolseys was great for food and the nightlife was great too. Family friendly Untill 9pm. Great atmosphere. 5* restaurant called PEARL 5 min taxi from Bangor centre to ballyholme. Best food you will have !!! If you want a take away kebab after the pub PICCOLOS is the place for that.. Lovely kebabs There's a bookies a stone throw away just beside the marine court car park .
Found a marvelous little cafe called the red berry cafe did the most amazing breakfast and some great pubs for a night out and Sunday lunch. People were friendly and company was great would most definitely go again as it was laid back and relaxed.
good and bad areas nice view of marina seafront needs investment on seafront partically good bars and resturants very poor shopping some really bad housing just behind seafront also more for children needs big retailers to invest
The Boat House and Salty Dog are great places to eat. The promenade by the sea is very nice to walk along. We went to the Ulster Folk museum outside of Bangor. Highly recommend it. Apart from that we were there for a funeral so not too much sight seeing.
