Great base to explore other interesting places and especially by train. Barmouth has enough entrainment for all ages and the beach is amazing and so clean. Barmouth felt too busy on arrival. The train was overheated and very crowded for the journey back to Shrewsbury. That destroyed a perhaps-naive hope that it would be an idyllic chance to view Wales. Lovely spot in North Wales, lovely beach and some nice restaurants. Locals were friendly . We did a boat trip around Cardigan Bay and it was well worth the £20 per head cost, although we were very lucky with the weather. Some nice shops. They accommodated our changing plans and went out of their way to do their best for us. The hotel was perfect for us as we enjoy older, traditional architecture and interiors. The rooms are very clean and the beds are comfortable. Breakfast is expertly prepared with a good choice of traditional English food. Lovely views of the sea from the breakfast room and bar! The breakfast was excellent and the lady running the B & B was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our king size bed was comfortable and everywhere was spotless. We had a room at the back of the building due to booking late but next time we'll book a sea view room at the front.
