Abbey House Hotel, King Alfred Hotel, and West Point House got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Barrow in Furness.
This place has a really negative aura. I can't even explain why but I was anxious while there. We should have booked a stay much closer to the Lakes or at least in Ulverston that is just a stone's throw away.
It was full of history didn't realise so much industrial work was done here from submarines to bricks and art also gateway to the lakes and stunning scenery well worth the journey and locals were very friendly and helpful. Easy to navigate around lots of tourist attractions and great for disabled travellers Lots of places to eat Hotel was well situated just out of town centre Very busy on a Saturday in the town centre rather loud so avoid if you don't like hen and stag nights overall a lovely break away
Do not stay in the Ambrose hotel location, as too many young lads in gangs causing destruction and very scarey. There was a place called Townhouse which was a hotel and restaurant in the town......I recommend staying there. Go to the Round house......which over looks the sea and beach, lovely for long walks.
I was just going to Barrow to a family funeral so it was a short trip. Would have loved to have stayed longer as I love Barrow and all around the area. It has great memories for me. The people are so friendly and you are close to the lakes and many wonderful places. I will be back!
Barrow has a bit of a down on itself, but I felt safe all the time, and thought it quite pleasant and the people friendly, and it had all the shops and such we needed in easy reach. It's also a short drive from the Lakes and the wonderful Walney Island Nature Reserve. It's an underrated town, with a lot to enjoy.
We visited Walney Island for the birdwatching and walking. Both really enjoyable despite a northerly wind! Plenty to see on the island. We were on foot so didn't get to the extreme north or south. Barrow itself has walks around the dock areas and we followed the St George's Walk through the conservation area and the Channelside walk. Cavendish dock was a particular highlight with many seabirds visible. Barrow Park is also well worth a visit. We discovered the Forum almost by accident. It has a lovely cafe and lots of tourist info available. There is also the Dock Museum which we visited last time. Locals were really friendly and helpful.
What a lovely hotel. We were going to Walney Island for a family function and the King Alfred hotel and staff were such a lovely part of our trip. The staff addressed each need we had. We were travelling in a larger group with a one-year old. The staff were so accommodating and pleasant. The rooms were large, warm, and very comfortable. I would also recommend the restaurant. The food was excellent and the portions were enormous. Also, be sure to visit the adult play park just down the road. That was a fun!
Have stayed here before and as always the the staff and facilities are just great. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking around Barrow touring the surrounding areas and the new car park and beer garden are excellent. Will stay again next time we're down in Cumbria
