I was born in Barrow and love coming back as I know all the best beaches and access to the lakes is easy. You also have Furness Abbey which is interesting, lots of great views. People are friendly and local meat and potato pies are lovely. Ulverston is good to visit and Hayes garden centre is great at Ambleside with the best views of the hills from their first floor restaurant.Try a glass of water there, it’s unbelievably fresh having come off the hillside. There are loads of nice places to eat, The Crown at North Scale has a good rating.
Walney Island is a hidden gem. There lovely beaches, two nature reserves (one at each end of the island) and the English Coast Path. There is a good bus service between Barrow and Walney (but this does not run down as far as the South Walney Reserve). I visited out of season (October) so the Piel Island Ferry and seal trips were not available at the time that I stayed (during the week) but I will certainly return during the summer. Furness Abbey is well worth a visit. There is a visitor centre with displays and exhibits and there are lovely walks in the valley. I found that the people in Barrow were really friendly and helpful.
Very interesting area- town/industry/ 1920 housing development for Vickers workers/nature reserves on Whalney island & excellent free museum Easy access to scenic coastal train route
Didn't realize it was so industrial, probably would not have gone had we known, a lack of good eating places. Town was clean and tidy, beautiful show of hanging baskets around the town well done to the local authority. Crossing the bridge to the small island was pleasant lovely beach area and views.
Barrow in Furness is a good base if you are visiting the Lake District. In itself though it is a dying seaside town, as so many are in the UK. It is industrialised, and not a good selection of shops. It is tired, and needs a good dose of TLC. There are not many attractions in the surrounding area, unless you are keen on wildlife. There is a fair selection of reasonably priced places to eat, catering for all tastes.
The accommodation was very good I would say almost with out fault However I was some what uneasy about the lack of covid security staff not wearing masks area for water and other things without any guidance And very and easy.
The reception staff were very friendly and only too pleased to answer any questions we had. The bar and waiting staff were very efficient and friendly as well. We ate in the hotel on the Thursday night and were amazed at how busy it was but how well the staff coped. The food was very good as well. We used the "App" to order and what a slick service it was. It was a very good location handy for the town centre. Lovely hotel, it would beat so called "up market" hotels for the room facilities.
Staff were friendly, covid measures were excellent. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast bap was good and the choice of continental options were good. The way they did breakfast was great, due to covid we couldn't use the restaurant, but we did have a hot bap option which we ordered using a QR code from the room. Free parking right behind the hotel, and is local to all amenities. Great overnight stay in Barrow.
Barrow in Furness
Lee was the greatest host with amazing hospitality. The apartment was fully stocked and even provided complimentary milk, bread, cereal etc. Bed was comfy and the jacuzzi spa was a plus. Tv was loaded with films and Netflix. The whole vibe of the flat was great very modern. Easy parking and close to many shops. And 15 min drive to Abbey furness and safari zoo. Definitely would stay here when coming to Barrow in Furness ♥️
The building has character and is set in beautiful grounds. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The room was large and comfortable, however we could hear noise from the corridor outside during the night and some acoustic seal around the door would help the situation. Other than that this hotel is excellent. Breakfast was superb.
The location is good, you can find everything you need within a mile from the hotel. The Majestic has a small carpark next to the hotel. It's probably the cheapest place in that area. The bathroom was decent. The bed was comfortable.
The hotel is located in the centre of town and has stylish decor inside. The family room was well equipped, even having a TV in each bedroom. The restaurant offers delicious food. Staff were welcoming and friendly throughout

It was handy while doing some work in Barrow. The room was pleasant, but being a groundfloor room, I couldnt leave any windows open in the day, or leave curtains open at all.
