The highlight turned out to be Bega Church at Mire House - the gardens at Mire House were open but the house itself closed due to Covid-19. Compared with some of the other lakes this was relatively peaceful yet had good road access. There appeared to be plenty of footpaths for those wanting a walking holiday.
A relaxing hotel with plenty of character excellent for walkers and dog friendly surrounded by beautiful countryside quaint bar with excellent selection of beers kept in great condition bedrooms all individual bathrooms a bit tired but clean and comfortable, food overall average, staff very friendly and efficient enjoyed our stay would return
Picturesque lake, quite difficult to get a good view, most parking places were full A few decent restaurants around but they were either still closed (August 2020) not taking bookings from non-residents or were fully booked - so book well ahead if you like to eat out
The place was really nice with beautiful scenery, the building was very nice and so were the staff. The room was disappointing it was small and there was no bath and TV in the bathroom only a shower which was not working properly
I used to visit Bassenthwaite when I was a child, now I take my children, it's a friendly village, the locals are lovely . Sun pub = great food. The scenery is beautiful there are several places of interest close by, Wildlife park, Lakes Distillery and the Mire house. There are also lot's of lovely walks in the area, ranging from easy strolls to challenge of the magnificent Skiddaw.
Lake within close walking distance of hotel and a beautiful place to visit. Other walks in the immediate vicinity are also delightful. Nearby Cockermouth is a gorgeous Cumbrian town to visit, shop an have a bite of lunch.
