FAQs about hotels in Birmingham

First-class Shopping, Culture and Sports

The UK's 2nd largest city, Birmingham is one of its top cultural centers. Well-known for its M6 Spaghetti Junction interchange, it's also a surprisingly green city with lots of open spaces.

Most city center hotels in Birmingham are near New Street Station. To the east is the futuristic architecture of the new Bull Ring shopping center, and behind that is Digbeth Bus Station. To the west is Victoria Square, home of the town hall and a German Christmas Market.

The Mailbox is one of the newest additions to the Birmingham shopping scene, and behind it is one of the canals converging on the Gas Street Basin. By one canal are the ICC (International Convention Center) and the NIA (National Indoor Arena), both venues that host major events.

Just across the street is Brindleyplace, a canal-front complex of restaurants, bars and hotels near Broad Street – the main nightlife area. It is popular with students at nearby Birmingham University, whose clock tower is modeled on the one in Siena. Just south in Bournville is Cadbury World, and there are several hotels on Hagley Road to the north, which are available on Booking.com.

The city is also known for sports – Aston Villa and Birmingham City are the top soccer clubs, while Edgbaston Cricket Ground hosts international matches. Other Birmingham attractions include Hockley’s Jewellery Quarter and the NEC arena by Birmingham International Airport.

    Cosmopolitan, but really friendly.

Cosmopolitan, but really friendly. Lots of interesting places to visit - notably the Jewellery Quarter Museum (take the tram) and the Back2Backs Museum (by Chinatown). Obviously, fantastic shopping in the Bullring and many other shopping centres etc and the Gas Street Canal area was interesting (probably even more so at night when it really comes alive!). With the recent death of Ozzy Osborne (Black Sabbath) there's plenty of 'memorials' to him currently. If historical and cultural buildings are 'your thing' then there's plenty to see and do. We were surprised by the significant amount of 'open spaces' for the residents/workers of Birmingham to relax in the centre of the City. Don't overlook Birmingham as a city centre destination!

If you have a special reason to go to Birmingham like an event, then it is ok but Birmingham itself is rather scruffy and dirty looking. Ok for shopping. Canal part & area with restaurants & bars is nice also the complex where Symphony Hall is nice. People were very friendly, polite & helpful.

I was pleasantly surprised with the city, clean and friendly. Be aware that the restaurants stop serving food earlier than other places I have been too, unless surviving on fast food is an option for you. A lot to see and do. The train station is quite difficult to navigate to begin with,

Full of diversity and colourful people.

Full of diversity and colourful people. We had everything we needed on the doorstep, local shops, places to eat clubs, bars ect the team was a great, easy and cheap way to get around. Lots can be explored on foot, the museum is definitely worth a visit. We went to Tonight Josephine and had a blast, the drag queen's are awesome, cocktails were excellent The following night we went to Box, such a great place we'd go back again for sure. Great cocktails again and pricing was reasonable. Zizzi for food, but a.local weatherspoon is also a good place.for good cheap grub!!

Jewellery Quarter Museum tour gave a real insight into olden day working methods. Cathedral stained glass is impressive but the building is much smaller than you might expect. Museum and Art Gallery well worth a visit. Really pleased that we caught the last day of the exhibitions at the Ikon Gallery. Not been to "Bimmie" for a long time and was quite shocked by the number of skyscrapers shooting up which are a little overbearing. Found the Metro trams very useful although the main central area sights are easily walkable. If you enjoy shopping you're spoiled for choice.

The Grand Hotel is the best in Birmingham. In the middle of all the weekend city centre liveliness with excellent shopping and restaurants in every direction. The suite (first visit) is beautiful, large and with a gigantic bathroom. The large king (second stay) was just as good as the the suite but with a smaller bathroom and lower ceiling, still of the highest quality. The onsite restaurant is a 9/10 and the breakfast was excellent. I stay at The Grand because they welcome my dog as much as they welcome me.

The breakfast was a good variety each morning. Location was a 5 minute walk from the city centre which was really ideal too. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a hotel in birmingham.

This place is more like an American motel, like mini apartments rather than a traditional British hotel. Loads of free parking, great location, not far from the city centre. The staff are friendly, polite, laid back and friendly. I stay here every time I visit Birmingham with work.
