Selkirk is a charming Borders own. It has to be said that it is a small town but sooo welcoming. Depending on what you expect from Selkirk....you will not find large chain stores/eating places but....local shops/couple of supermarkets/and a short walk to the auld Kirkyard worth a visit. Quite atmospheric and provides fantastic views of the area. Ventured to the local pub on New Years day and made to feel very welcome. Beautiful old wooden bar fittings...and.....the wine served I found to be better quality than nearby hotels. Up to you. Meet the locals...that's my mantra. Enjoy.
The main attraction for us were Melrose and Kelso. 2 our of 3 days rained and snowed so didn’t get to see much of them, in fact couldn’t even get to Kelso at all. But we liked Melrose, small and pretty shops there. Abbotsford was nice, if we had time we would’ve definitely made it to Bowhill house near Selkirk. Also Absolutely loved Mainstreet Trading company cafe, was my favourite place. Intalian lunch at Monte Cassino was ok(a mixture of good and just ok dishes) and the Dalghetti tea room in Melrose, despite being an award winning cafe, cakes were just fine nothing outstanding about them and the bill was much more than expected. felt a bit ripped off in the end.
Yarrowford was an ideal location to travel around the Border towns and Abbeys. We visited Abbotsford and Melrose Abbey and then Lauder, stopping for refreshments at Burts Hotel Melrose and then some shopping and apple pie at The Flat Cat in Lauder. A perfect day.
The Scottish Borders is steeped in history and has dramatic scenery, especially if you go for the beaten track walking . Foot paths are well sign posted . Dogs are welcome in most pubs where hot drinks and food is off good value and standard.
Great base for travelling around the area. Selkirk has a fantastic walk around a lake. Also the small museum was really interesting. Great eating places, the Selkirk Deli had good home cooked food for a lunch. The Taste of Spice Indian restaurant was fantastic. Also The Fleece food was delicious. Dined at the Heatherlie Hotel and that was very nice too.
A beautiful remote place, stunning sights everywhere. We travelled an hour and half to get to Edinburgh, and about the same time to get to the Northumberland coast. So I would say a good location. We came across very friendly people, who were happy to chat. Definitely recommend.

Everything. Great quiet location. Fully equipped and everything brand new. Very warm property even without the wood burner on. Lovely decoration and very comfortable. Large tv. Nice garden to sit in with its own furniture. Fantastic welcome basket and very friendly hosts. Very much an out of town location but is only a mile and a half from the centre of Selkirk. Would have loved to stay longer.
